well i read this post yesterday, and got so sidetracked that i saved MOST of those pics for future drooling.. and forgot to congratulate you on this find until now! i would not leave there... ever! wanting to know why he didnt take a pic of that green mk1 capri next to the brooklands tho... this is what i would want if i won the lottery... only ALL of them would be used!

i started off this morning changing a cam belt on a pug 306 D turbo, crankshaft pulley was well and truly stuck on there so i proceeded to seperate the inner and outer pulley with a screwdriver, then a lever bar and a hammer lol, so i get the outer pulley off to find that ive mullered the inner one with the lever bar! lovely... i jump in my van (2001 1.8 TDI escort van) and drive around a few car parts places in hastings, no1 can get this pulley. i drive home and my fan belt start squeeling, carried on driving and started smelling rubber burning lol, all of a sudden, something popped and i feel a lot of vibration from the engine through the body. bien in the mood i was in i carried on, my battery light came on, the squeeling stopped, i looked in the mirror and saw my fan belt chewed up in the road, carried on driving home, open the bonet to find that the alternator has snapped off its mounts and is dangling by the wires... wish i had never got up thismorning!!

i got caught by 2 police dog units messing around in an industrial estate one night lol, he got out and asked me what i was doing, so i sed... its my first rwd car and im just testing it out, he laughed, got back in the car and let me get on with it

its happend to me a few times. done a head gasket on a renault megane, put new thermo in it, kept boiling up, tried everything, compression was fine, fan was fine, tried another thermo, perfect. also be careful to put them in the right way easy mistake to make!

had the same on my capri, was due to 12v leccy ignition coil on there. swapped it for a 9v coil and never had a prob after

yes i know its not an OSF but anyway, i have a mk6 escort van with the shit slow 1.8D engine, it was shit slow until i slapped a TD turbo, intercooler and injector pump on it, it has been flying for a few months and now its gone gutless again, the boost is fine. it idles lumpy, but drives fine at low revs, you can feel the turbo pulling up hill, but when it normally would take off, nothing happens and you need to change gear to drop the revs again. i think its the pump underfuelling as i dont get clouds of grey smoke anymore when i boot it. i have read that there is a boost diaphragm (think that how u spell it lol) in a little capsule on the side of the pump (front of van) and its pretty common for splitting. i also read that you can get a lot more power by upping the fueling and setting the boost right (already done ) this little diaphragm apparently needs to be installed professionally ive been told, otherwise you risk putting in too much fuel and overpowering your poor little 1.8D, to any diesel specialists out there please where can i get this little diagphragm and how is this done??? i dont care about what i could do to the engine as i got a spare 1.8d lump just without a pump! thought i might have a play i have asked on Alcoholics Anonymous but had no replies, and im not about to pay hundreds to ave my pump recon'd when thats all the vans worth! thanks
