theres a mint white 3.0S floating around hastings, might be the same one, never noticed if it had stripes

i stripped out my daily driver apart from dash, front seats and door cards. all the back and carpet was out, suprising how much stuff they can fit in the back of a capri, it is much louder i gotta say, but what a difference, u know when u got 2 people in your car and it feels slow, and on your own it feels faster, its like taking another person out! and u got to love the noise anyway! oh yeah i forgot, if it wasnt arse endy enough, its even better when u got no weight in the back
-
Unleaded better flowed bout 15bhp more due to the flowing, thats just the head, im guessing if u kept the EFI system it would be better on juice also. done think there are any cons, other than be careful when u bolt a carby manifold to it as i hear u need to line the ports up i think

rwd all the way for me, but its still nice...

HOW TO.... Drift Mk3 Capri 2.0 pinto with no LSD?
TwoLitrePinto replied to shayn16v's topic in OLD SKOOL FORD CHAT
haha my mates just found a video on his phone of when i had my 1.6 pinto in my mk3 i done a burnout outside his house just before it went bang... when i find a way of getting it off my phone and onto here i will put it on for a laugh, not drifting but just as fun -
rover 200's the battery trays are removable, done a few head gaskets on them and are plentiful down any scrappies with the head missing usually lol! wonder why! if its got the K-series in it anyway i think, round shape 200 not the older shape, and some of them have honda engines with gearbox on the left, not sure if these battery trays are the same...

if your coil says "electronic ignition" on it its wrong lol anyway, check the spark directly from the coil, if its weak there change the coil, point & condenser. if its strong there but weak at the HT leads, start looking at the distributor cap (including the tiny carbon tip in the middle), rotor arm, and ignition timing... if the distributor timing is too far out, the spark will barely reach from the rotor arm to the point on the distributor cap, which results in the edges bieng burnt to a crisp and a cap that lasts 5mins. then obviously the plugs. if theres still a weak spark after all then either you are setting the points wrong, or there is a bad earth to the coil or something
-
take all the plugs out, clean them up with wire brush and bit of sandpaper or something, spin the engine over (with the coil disconnected) incase its flooded full of fuel or something so it throws it all out, make sure theres a spark, and fuel going into the cylinders... if you have fuel and a good spark from the plug tip, its either timing or compression, nothing else it can be. i had this before and it turned out to be because i had an electronic ignition coil and a points & condensor setup, the leccy ignition types need an ignition amplifier to give a decent enough spark

i think as long as its older than about 52 plate it will probably have the completely crap 1300 endura engine which is basically a modern injection xflow with a coil pack, crank sensor, EFi, PAS etc etc. the engines r not the same as xflow but same design... cant see why a xflow wont go in just use the 1300 ka box and mix and match a clutch. get rid of all the wiring. if its got a power steering rack u will need to do something about that! maybe you could get the PAS pump to fit on a xflow
-
you may be right i cant remember clearly now it was a while ago lol, but it still worked fine without the insulator block and i never caught light or anything lol
-
the 2.0 is definately a much more sort after engine, very torquey and easy to drive, if you do decide later in its life that you want more power, you have already got the engine for the job... i agree the 2.0 is the best option as if you want MPG, theyre not bad standard anyway
-
yup, if you know where you want the cam, and have the right offset woodruff key im not recommending this 2 anyone but i found with my cam my timing needed adjusting about half a tooth on the pulley, i just launched the woodruff key, put some threadlock on my bolt and wacked it up rediculously tight! i know the pulley has the potential to slip, but at the end of the day when you know 100% that the valves dont come proud of the combustion chamber and cant hit the pistons, so what! anyway i used it like this for about 10k miles no problems
-
man how i wish i had the money at the mo, im all up for bieng different, and gonzo when im asking you what engine do u recommend for my next capri... definately remind me of this...
-
my old 2.1 with 3.0 carb and fast road cam etc, used to average about 12mpg but i went through about 10 P/W tyres on the back in 2 months so that might be why sitting at 65mph on a motorway it would give me about 35mpg most. insurance was £700 a year on a 2.0 laser (no performance mods declared apart from the 4branch manifold as it was visible and im 21 with 3yrs no claims
-
i was running my 2.1 pinto with a 38DGAS and no insulator with a home made gasket, started and ran fine hot or cold, apparently having the carb a bit closer to the manifold gives it a tiny bit more torque but dont qoute me on it
-
you can go 2.1 with the zetec as my mates done it, not sure if u need liners or what but its a mk3 fezza xr2i, RS lookalike with a 2.1 ZETEC (NOT ZVH) with a T3 bolted to it. cant remember the numbers but it somewhere between 300-400bhp at the moment and on the street.. stupidly fast. i wold probably favor the zetec in terms of potential and although its a bit more expensive its not that expensive... dont get mw wrong i love a pinto as you can probably guess and theyre a very good engine with great potential aswell... oh yeah and whoever said the pinto is unreliable..

an old 20 block you know that

niiice going mate, was that an american block or 205 block bored out? if its 205 block what bore and crank is that running? ive herd something about 2.4 with stroked crank and machining required to stop rods hitting block walls? interested!
