nelly231 Posted February 16, 2008 Report Posted February 16, 2008 has anyone used any of the caprisport brake kits? i am considering one for my track day mk2 escort as a cheaper alternative to wilwoods or hi spec but not heard anyone else mention them.
bullittcraig Posted February 16, 2008 Report Posted February 16, 2008 They are basically just a budget brake upgrade by using modded brackets in order to fit mondeo or granada calipers and disks. My Mk2 Essky had them on it when i bought the motor but i removed them as i wanted to put the rs 4-spoke 13" rims back on it. You can buy my old caprisport kit as i wont need it anymore.
nelly231 Posted February 17, 2008 Author Report Posted February 17, 2008 did they work well while you had them fitted? im just a bit dubious whether they gonna be up to some hard track use. im running 8x13 wheels and have been told i need there '260 kit' that will fit under these . if thats what you have i would be interested to give them a go.
carl Posted February 17, 2008 Report Posted February 17, 2008 i run them on my mkII capri 3.0 so heavy old beast and they work fine, not done a trackday though.
bullittcraig Posted February 17, 2008 Report Posted February 17, 2008 The guy that fitted them said that he was preparing the essky for use as a track day car so im quite sure they will be good enough. Having said that even though the kit i`ve got is the 260 kit which is supposed to be able to allow fitment of 13" wheels i found that this wasn`t the case. I think the reason for this is that caprisport may supply another type bracket to allow 13" wheels to fit. If you are interested then i advise you give caprisport a call and enquire about the 260 kit and is there a different bracket to allow the fitment of 13" rims. This is the list of the parts to the kit i removed; 2 x Machined Escort hubs to allow disc to be fitted at the front of hub. (hubs do include all bearings and long wheel bolts) 2 x Granada callipers set of pads (almost new) 2 x Calliper brackets + bolts & washers 2 x 260mm vented discs (believe may be warped though) This kit hasn`t done many miles at all but may require new discs but i do know that they aren`t expensive as they are just 260mm granada vented ones. You can have the lot for £50.
caprifan Posted February 17, 2008 Report Posted February 17, 2008 ....there is only one type of bracket for the '260' kit...however not all 13" wheels will fit....some won't fit due to design of the rim....
thesmith Posted February 17, 2008 Report Posted February 17, 2008 Sorry to but in chaps , im running the same kit ,but the bigger version ,I was wandering how well did your brackets fit , were they sitting evenly ,ive fitted mine slightly different and have used some tubes to mount them evenly on the discs , any info would be appreciated,CHEERS
nelly231 Posted February 17, 2008 Author Report Posted February 17, 2008 gonna be running 8x13 compomotives so hopefully that should give me enough room.
bullittcraig Posted February 17, 2008 Report Posted February 17, 2008 I tried to fit the rs 4-spoke 13"x7j alloys from midland wheels but they were hitting the edge of the caliper. I have to say they weren`t far out so 8x13`s may be ok, just depends on the inside profile of the alloy. The brackets fit ok on mine but because of the thinner bolts they use it may be a case of when there tightened they need to be central through the bolt hole in the strut. All things considered though i think its a bloody good budget upgrade kit.
4parajon Posted February 18, 2008 Report Posted February 18, 2008 Neil @ Caprisport told me that the only wheel that the 260 kit wont fit under is the laser copy of the RS 4 spoke wheel. They fitted fine under my x-pack rims. Having said that I dont think Midlands had brought out there version of the RS wheel then as it was early last year when I spoke to Neil. Have you thought of giving Neil a call or e-mail to answer this question???
