Mick The Cabbie Posted September 5, 2008 Author Report Posted September 5, 2008 A little update on the 4 door. Overall, I've been really chuffed with my summer runabout although sadly it looks like summer may well now be over... I've done a couple more bits and bobs to it. These have vastly improved the driving experience of what is overall still a fairly standard car. Firstly, I swapped the awful standard steering wheel (which made the car akward for my 6'5" self to drive) for an RS / Sport type which had been hanging up and forgotten about in the garage for a few years. It was dusty and a bit tatty looking initially. However a good clean and some leather restorer on the rim had it looking quite presentable and more than worthy of a home in the old girl. Secondly, the very standard exhaust didn't quite go with the no longer standard appearance. That wheeeezy sounding peashooter always made for a slightly disappointing drive. I didn't want to spend £££'s on a brand new one as a swap to a Pinto may still be on the cards or I may even sell her on next year when I've finished the van. So I spent a while searching ebay etc for a good second hand one. I actually ended up spotting this very good second hand Ashley type system at the RSOC national day at Donnington Park!! A bargain at £40.00 thanks to the Escort Tec boys! I then wasted an hour and some black smoothrite The car already had an Ashley type manifold fitted. So the new system fitted up a treat! Job done and the vastly improved soundtrack makes for a much more fun drive! Now sitting under the newly built carport. Soon to be extended up to the garage so there'll be room for two old relics to keep warm and dry under there . A couple of random shots taken last week.
