cyrix Posted November 20, 2006 Report Posted November 20, 2006 The project I am working on at the moment has rust in the two front corners of the roof skin/window opening that was lurking under the vinyl roof. Has anyone ever repair anythnig like this or does anyone in the northeast know of someone who would attempt this? Have got the front off another non vinyl roofed cortina to use as a repair section. Main worry is I dont want the roof to be rippled, I had at first though of just shaping a plate inserted from underneath and welding from the top, then filling it smooth with filler. Not sure if this will crack, or be really obvious however.
mk2_boy Posted November 21, 2006 Report Posted November 21, 2006 just re-skin the roof its easier in the long run! cut the roof off another cortina, and use that! but do the whole lot or it'll probably look crap after
mk2 stu Posted November 21, 2006 Report Posted November 21, 2006 Hello mate, pm me if you need advice on this, but follow mk2 boys advice and weld a comple roof panel on, either get a donor car or source a new old stock skin. Be careful when layin on new skin not to push down on corners as this will send a crease diagonally across the roof. Also be careful when weldin not to create too much heat is you will warp it.
