vibrating_Cake Posted July 7, 2008 Report Posted July 7, 2008 Im currently dumping a zetec in the capper. but i have clearance problems with the brake servo. i was wondering, would this servo be inter-changeable with the smaller escort servo??? which should give me enough clearance for the zetec and webers. also what other options do i have?? how do remote servo's work and if i was to run without a servo (for example old mk1's did... what master cylinder should i be using to make it easier to jab the pedal down rather than the std m/c which is designed for use with the servo!
razersedge Posted July 7, 2008 Report Posted July 7, 2008 if it was me i would go down the remote servo route but the only problem is you can only run it on one brake pipe, all brake's must come off one pipe, but you will never feel brakes like it, my mate had standard mk 1 brake's in good shape on a rover remote servo and he let me have a go, and whilst driving it a push bike pulled out in front of me i jumped on the brakes the thing stopped on a six pence and so violently he flew out of the passenger seat and crashed into the windscreen and had a lump on his head from the impact because he wasn't wearing a seat belt. I'll never forget him flying through the air and sitting in the footwell after not knowing what just happened

vibrating_Cake Posted July 7, 2008 Author Report Posted July 7, 2008 also on that i have a space M/C that has two outputs... i could run one to both rears and one to the servo... but it'd still need splitting into 2 for the front disks... is this possible?
garyv6100e Posted July 7, 2008 Report Posted July 7, 2008 Hi i got my remote servo kit for my 100E from ebay for £80 , the guy has a shop selling MG parts it was listed as mgb gt servo , all parts req'd to fit it included but no instructions works perfectly type in a search for "remote brake servo" and you should find it
razersedge Posted July 7, 2008 Report Posted July 7, 2008 well the mk1 escorts have a 4 way spliter 1 to each front brakes and one to the rear and the other goes to the master cylinder the remote servo has a brake pipe in and out the one my mate had was off a p6 rover just had a look on the bay and there is 2 main types mgb simlar size car which is 1.65:1 ratio of boost which is £65 ratio or the bristol/rover biger car one which is 3:1 ratio of boost £89 and you must be able to get a willward single pipe master cyclinder that will fit or just block off one of the ways on a normal one or a mk1 one might fit http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Remote-Servo-Kit-Rover-CHEAPEST-ON-EBAY_W0QQitemZ150246656450QQihZ005QQcategoryZ27382QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Remote-Servo-MGB-single-line-brake-systems-64-95_W0QQitemZ150238447187QQihZ005QQcategoryZ27380QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TRIUMPH-HERALD-ETC-4-WAY-BRAKE-PIPE-UNION_W0QQitemZ360039479298QQihZ023QQcategoryZ27383QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247#ebayphotohosting
vibrating_Cake Posted July 7, 2008 Author Report Posted July 7, 2008 and where can i get the splitters for the brake lines??? if i go the *put this master cylinder with two outputs on" have one going to the servo and the other going to the two rears then i'd need a splitter to split the one output from the remote servo to the two front brakes.... thanx for all the info guys!!! what ratio of boost should i be looking at... would 3:1 be a bit OTT? edit: that 4 way stuff looks good haha. what fittings do you use with one of those for the threads?
razersedge Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 best to try to get a master cylinder with 1 output from a willwood or simlar stockest ie rally design or butons or where ever is near you or get a new mk1 one and make it fit, because all mk3 capri's have servo's as far as i know, being as you are fitting it to a capri i would say use the 3:1 one because it is a biggish car more like the size of a rover/bristol than a mgb, and it's more than likely to be imperial thread on the union than metric
vibrating_Cake Posted July 8, 2008 Author Report Posted July 8, 2008 what size master cylinder should i be using (for the standard setup) disks at front biggest drums at back?? 0.625in 0.700in 0.750in for the master cylinders with 1 output to go to the 3:1 servo
razersedge Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 now this bit i don't know i think the mk1 one is 0.70 and i think the mk2 gerling one is 0.75 but i'm afraid you are going to have to ask the people at the shop unless someone else on here can describe the difference of performace of them. But i would say the bigger the piston the less the pedal will travel but i'm not sure. sorry i can't help any more
