Should just pop out. If your lucky then you MAY be able to get a long thing screwdriver through the box, but the diff spider will probably get in the way.

You should just be able to get a lever between the CV and the Box. Or a Big thick chisel and give it a tap.

you need to drive it out from the other side, however you need something that is almost the same diameter as the splined shaft, and the end you drive in (as in the face that will impact the end of the driveshaft) needs to have a groove in to allow for a pin that will be in the way, you nee to leave this drift/tool that you make or buy as sometimes the diff gears can drop and give you problems,

can you not get away with cutting the boot strap off the inner c.v joint and sliding the shaft out of the joint rather than drive the joint out of the box? its easier and normally what i do essecially when changing clutchs (for example) cos you dont have the oil p*ssing all over the place.... :D:ykt::thumbsup:

hope this helps :D

thanks for all the responces.

the special tool was kinda what i thought i had to do. have had the shaft out before and had split it from the inner cv like you segested when i did the clutch a while back i did try to tap it out then on the bench but it didnt seam to budge. may be it did a little coz when i got it back

together 2nd gear somtimes is a little hard to select. i had readjusted the cables to ford/haynes spec so i no there some were near.

as i got a whole new shaft was gonna replace the lot but now im thinking im gonna split the new one and seeing what happens

as for the shaft i have a knocking noise on the nearside front the drive shaft is the only front part i havent changed the rest is new. ie new rack, track rod ends, dampers, top mount, lower arm, arb links, its driving me nuts now and its getting worse.

thanks for ur help
