tt capri Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 in my sump today , when i took it off to change the sump gasket It's a 3.0 essex engine btw , which was running ok when i took it out , i am hoping it's debris from something what's happened to the engine before i got it , i can't see anything broke so if anyone can identify or give me a bit of a clue as to what the bits may be off it would be appreciated Thanks
stephens_xpack Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 The thing on the right looks like a lighter..
tt capri Posted December 30, 2008 Author Report Posted December 30, 2008 I knew it was a bad idea putting that lighter there for a bit of scale , but got what i deserved
ASBO CAPRI Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 I just had a look in a haynes manual for 3.0 capri and I wonder if you put the peices together they could resemble a camshaft thrust plate which could in theory drop off into the sump and the engine might still run. If worst come to worst you could take the timing cover off to have a look. Just a thought though.
tt capri Posted December 31, 2008 Author Report Posted December 31, 2008 I put this on another site as well , and i think you are on the right part mate , gonna get it stripped today and keeping fingers very firmly crossed, will let u know the outcome
V8ian Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 While you have it off, its worth checking the condition of the timing gear, being fibre, they do wear with a vengance.
tt capri Posted December 31, 2008 Author Report Posted December 31, 2008 Stripped the timing gear off today , and thank the lord look what's behind it ca'nt see any other damage so the bits must be from an earlier incident , BUT i am going to check every bolt i can see for tightness and if any are loose i can see a strip down on the horizon
