Fuel Guage/Sender Problem

hello guys ... wondering if anybody has experienced this problem or if your knowledge can suss out the problem with the fuel guages not working on my 100e.

 

I have made a custom ally dash with cortina 1600e clocks (including the fuel guage) but am using the original fuel senders in the 100e tank. The guages worked once, but they worked backwards. As soon as the tank went empty, and i re-filled, they did not work again

 

just wondering, if these clocks are actually compatible with the fuel senders. How would i overcome the problem and get them working? I know the guages and senders are working for definite, they are just not working together. I also know that an escort sender will work with the clock so am really considering, modifying the tanks to take escort senders, although not sure if this will give an accurate fuel reading.

 

any help or know how will be greatly appreciated guys as its annoying when you dnt actually know how much fuel you have left, because the 48's are drinking it by the bucket load lol
