Swayed towards cortina mkIII

Hi, i have for years planned to buy a capri and to customise it to my own taste, but i have recently for no apparent reason been seduced by the cortina mkIII, cant explain it but oll of a sudden i seem to prefer it to a capri...

 

anyway ive been keeping an eye on capri prices and whats generally available over a few years as i live in Shetland and if im to buy a OSF this could pose problems!

 

I guess im just trying to decide what im after and how much its gona cost when i have enough to buy it!

 

It has to be a MkIII, no offense but i think other cortinas all look fairly crap in comparison! is there any good sites which take you through the various different MkIII models in an easy to follow manner? in not that mechanical!

 

also what do you think are the pros/cons between a 2 and 4 door?!?

 

so far im leaning towards the GXL look with the nice grille and twin headlights, how much do they generally set someone back. keep in mind im not after a show car, i want something for every day use but it would have to be sturdy and able to survive shetland weather etc!

if you prefer mk3's you should not call the others "crap"

everybody's taste is different + you are entitled to your

opinion, but it could start off a slaggin match. if you want

a mk3 as said b.s.c is a good start + there are allways a

few on gaybay, 2 doors are usualy more money (but not

allways) 4 doors more practicle if you have a family. gxl's

seem to go for more too + people like the tax exempt early

one's.

mine is a mix and match, was a L but has bits from others

 

i like the look of all the cortinas especially mk3's (not biased though)

i have mk3 preface lift do like the shape off them but dont mind any really but im not fussed about what i own

 

i also own a mk1 which has it's own taste appeal which is also nicely shaped,but id own any of the tina's has the all mk1 through to mk5

The models are Base, L, XL, GXL And GT with the GXL being replaced by the 2000E in 74

well i was carefull to word it so i said 'no offence' and 'i think' and 'in comparison' so i wasnt actually saying anything is crap but i ill take it out if you think it will cause an e-riot! heh

 

thanks alot for all the info and opinions, anywhere i can compare those different models in appearance? those L's as you said look like a good compromise if they are any easier or cheaper to get a hold of?!?

 

one noob question, i always wondered when hearing about capri's aswell and wasnt 100% sure of... what exactly is meant by pre-facelift?

 

and which year is the cutoff for tax exempt? and is this the same year you can keep the oldschool black/silver number plates?

this is a preface lift they are very basic inside flicky switch's,the later mk3 had sqish headlight's i do belive,their is not a lot in them some some one else will put up a pic,

 

p.s.

 

this car is for sale in 3 week's time,has being respayed and retested next week

god damn it... every time i see this car i want to sell the capri and get a cortina mk3 (i'm poet and i don't know it! )

 

i know how ya feel bud, i wanted the capri orginally for it's american muscle looks, but now i think the cortinas just look double hard!

something like that would suit me down to the ground, seeing it makes me realise twin headlights arent essential, looks smart! im a bit of a sucker for black i have to admit, ive not seen that many black cortinas though whilst looking...

 

ive seen some intresting bonnets with power bulges and the sort, not made up my mind whether i like them or not, but if i did are they difficult to get hold of?

 

whats everyones opinion of graphics on a cortina, stripes or whatever, i did plan on some for a capri if i got one, not sure if i would do anything on a cortina though....

 

i know these things always have very strong mixed opinions on these forums so be gentle with me!
