bashbymk2 Posted April 17, 2009 Report Posted April 17, 2009 mrs is going mental cos this is all i seem to think about at the moment so help me decide please lol do i go cossie n/a or turbo I have a quaife type 9 with heavy duty kit which would suit a N/A however i just keep getting drawn to turbo! I know i will have to get a t5 box to go turbo and a chap on Alcoholics Anonymous is going to get a turbo engine for me rebuilt with new turbo for £2500 or i have been offered a cossie lump with 98k miles, 205 block and no turbo for n/a conversion.. for £850, would this be a good base for a n/a? So go n/a or go turbo...
bashbymk2 Posted April 17, 2009 Author Report Posted April 17, 2009 hmmm what to do, n/a does sound naughty, but it is effing expensive, however at least i got a gear box for one, do you reckon i could get an engine built for £4000?
mk2 escy ron Posted April 17, 2009 Report Posted April 17, 2009 if i had £4000 i would go and buy a complete cossie saph and swap the whole lot over. i think the n/a is nice but the added force from the turbo WOW
mex255l Posted April 17, 2009 Report Posted April 17, 2009 You could do it your self for less i did ,2.1 yb on 50's you just need to keep your eyes open and ear to the ground
bashbymk2 Posted April 17, 2009 Author Report Posted April 17, 2009 where is the best place to go for head work for an n/a? 2.1 on 50's sounds good just got to find a donor engine 1st! could go for this 1 i mentioned at the top for 850??
mk1super Posted April 17, 2009 Report Posted April 17, 2009 N/a sounds amazing however the wooosh of a turbo and silly top speeds does appeal
mex255l Posted April 17, 2009 Report Posted April 17, 2009 it was the sound that did it for me dont hang around either i did'nt like the idea of spoiling my car with a turbo (personal preference) check out you tube under, rwyb santa pod 26/10/08 you can do the head work your self it takes a very long time but saves you a hell of a lot of money.not all of us have a flexable friend.
bashbymk2 Posted April 17, 2009 Author Report Posted April 17, 2009 hmm doing the headwork would be a lot cheaper just not sure where i would start lol!
mex255l Posted April 17, 2009 Report Posted April 17, 2009 you dont even need to touch the head im told it should be good for 170bhp with the right cams, you just need to start gathering up your parts for now ie,yb block pistons rods head cams solid lifters or nomal ones if your not going over 7000rpm. its a fair amount of work and their are a lot of pit falls but its well worth the trouble
bashbymk2 Posted April 17, 2009 Author Report Posted April 17, 2009 im hoping for around 220bhp so head work would really need to be done, ill start looking for parts now, im trying to barter with the chap that selling the 105e in the for sale section as he has a HT cossie on 50's and wants 4k but im not holding my breath.
mk2 escy ron Posted April 17, 2009 Report Posted April 17, 2009 so if ya want around 220bhp y not just put a standard cossie turbo lump in
bashbymk2 Posted April 17, 2009 Author Report Posted April 17, 2009 know what ya saying just drawn towards n/a as its a lovely noise high reving and responsive, my mate has a yb turbo and it never seems to run right
mex255l Posted April 17, 2009 Report Posted April 17, 2009 "so if ya want around 220bhp y not just put a standard cossie turbo lump in" not the same sort of power or noise or feel of instant power smashing its way through a straight cut box and trying to remove your rear axel
EscortDan Posted April 17, 2009 Report Posted April 17, 2009 You could do it your self for less i did ,2.1 yb on 50's you just need to keep your eyes open and ear to the ground And have your good buddies around you, with there ears and eye's on the ground, and donating parts! Oh and plenty of
bashbymk2 Posted April 17, 2009 Author Report Posted April 17, 2009 i bloody wish most of em drive bloody saxo's! not real cars lol
LEONMEX Posted April 17, 2009 Report Posted April 17, 2009 I would love to cossie turbo my mk1 but like the simplicity & sound of a carbed engine hope that helps
mex255l Posted April 17, 2009 Report Posted April 17, 2009 And your very own escort dan comes in very very handy thanks mate and thanks for that con rod the second time i blew it up.a lot has been learned since then but its a learning curve, deep pockets and good friends help .o and plenty of
