1/4 mile times

I keep reading 1/4 mile times for a standard 2.8i as 16.2 at 85+ mph. Is this posible? Maybe when tha car was new? I can't get below a 16.9 in mine at 81 mph? Maybe my techneque is all wrong? I done a 17.4 in my 2.0S which is what that should do. Is it more likley my engine is tired with age? Would a 4 speed box help? I hear there better for exceleration

Fit a 2ltr or better still a 1600 axle add an LSD if u can find one that should make it accelerate a bit quicker. If u can lose 10th second in the first 60ft of dragstrip u may see as much as 3 tenth diffrence at the finish.

a 4 speed will help no end, as will a 2 litre diff.

if you wanted to drag you should have kept the 2 litre mate

 

i know a guy that had a mildly modded 2 litre that whupped about 7 other vee engine capris on the day, two eights and three litres, he was 3rd out of ten capris and was the only one running a pinto, the only 2 faster cars were both running TT230 conversions.

I know of a guy that had a 2.8 and he said they were lazy....

I still have the 2ltr. it's my winter run around when funds alow i'll put in a cossy v6 or turbo in my 2.8i

Sure i can shave a bit off the start. I got adjustible shocks on the the car and i didn't turn them down so they where set quite hard.

will the 2.8i slip diff fit in a 1.6 axel?

Yes just fit the 1600 crown gear to the LSD and it'l mate up to the 1600 pinion. I've fitted one in a 2.0 axle before.
