michael_200 Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 am i right by saying that a type 2 comes standard in most standard mk1 1300? if so will that box fit to a 1.6 x-flow... just wondering if its worth my while to buy a quaife gearkit?
bomber1 Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 yes it will most ford boxes are intercchangable
michael_200 Posted May 14, 2009 Author Report Posted May 14, 2009 cheers, is it generally a good enough box.. just checting before i part with alot of dosh for a gear kit lo
bomber1 Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 personaly ive never killed a ford box and belive me i drive like a mary when in an escort or sierra! what do you want to use the car for? tbh i would go 5speed with a gear kit as 4speeds are limited ie screaming its tits off @70 if ur going any distance it will wear your paitance very thin very quick!
michael_200 Posted May 15, 2009 Author Report Posted May 15, 2009 just want it for a fast road car setup. but might be worth looking in to.. prob make the car a bit more useable.. whats the sort of cheapest decent 5 speed to go for that will fit a crossflow without to much bother
bomber1 Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 just want it for a fast road car setup. but might be worth looking in to.. prob make the car a bit more useable.. whats the sort of cheapest decent 5 speed to go for that will fit a crossflow without to much bother tbh any 5speed that came from a 4cylinder car will fit the block easly but minmum you will need to mod the tunnel with a large hammer. then cut and move the gearstick hole back. then cut the box mounts and move back to suit. as long as you can road test the box or get a garunteed box they will all be strong enough on a x-flow.
