Any Gas Heating Engineers Advice Needed.

We bought our house 3 years ago had an extension and house "restored" (lived with the in-laws for a year) which included a new heating system.

 

 

The guy we got in was bl**dy useless he never finished it, only a towel rail to be connected, i have hung it, and the relevant certificate to be signed and given to us been like this for about 18 months !!!

 

 

We need to get the planning passed and this is the only thing that's stopping us, i spoke to a couple of companies but they all say they are unable to do anything because he bought and installed the boiler.

 

Does anyone know who we can speak to and rectify our problem ? I was told if i call the Gas board they will just turn up and shut off our supply and deem it unsafe ?

was he corgi registered ??

 

if he was then the job should have been done right, if he wasn't report him.

 

some plumbers will come and certificate it for you but alot (me included )don't like to do it because you are putting your name to someone elses work and your not 100% sure what they've done.

 

if he was corgi registered at the time he should have certificated it and if he won't get onto corgi and (as it is now) gas safe and see what they say.

Yes he is and was Corgi !!!!

 

He never turned up when he said, held up the builder i had in constantly and wanted payments up front

 

 

The towel rail had not arrived before we moved in , we ordered it, so he asked me to hang it, he was going on Holiday and he would come back connect drain the system treat it and refill then sign all the paperwork guarantee etc.

 

That was 18 months ago !!!

 

I've rang so many times and each time got promises then he turned up to "look" at what needed doing cos he had forgottton then never came back again.

 

I spoke to him again Monday and he said he would "pop in" on the way home at 4 o'clock yesterday but give him a call to remind him !!!

 

My wife rang about 10 times yesterday and 5 today no reply just answerphone ........... what the f**k can i do now ?

 

I need it signed off to get the planning passed, we want to do as i've been offered another house with a large amount of land with workshops meaning i can run my business from home and stop paying rent to line someone elses pocket !!!!

Ring around other local gas registered plumbers near you and explain your position and name the plumber /business you will probably find most builders/plumbers etc know each other and if the bloke you used is known for being "a tradesman" who does good work then another plumber will probably sign it off ,but it might cost you a bit more or if hes know as a bit of a bodger many will leave alone....

Have you tryed contacting corgi and explaining your problem? from wot i understand they can remove him from the register.should it go that far.

I've found the new version of Corgi (Gas safe) and decided i'm going to ring them in the morning, i see this guy most days as he lives 5 mins walk from me been round the house etc pee's me off he's driving around in a brand new van yet he doesn't seem to finish a job !!!

Give Gas safe a call they take bad tradesman very seriously and they might have a few other complaints about him as its not your fault he hasnt come back ....

Dont you just love all these new day terms for jobs. when i'm asked what i do i just say logistics operative...lorry driver

 

 

Back on subject, i almost had the same problem with the electrician when i had an extension built. Like you say you are fooked without the certificates these days, and i had a right ol job getting him here to finish the work. Although i mangaged to get him to sign off the releveant paperwork, little bits still werent finshed, and i've had to go round and do them myself.

What a complete waste of time and money you being registered with either Corgi or Gas safe.

 

Unless i report that the installation is unsafe there is nothing they can do

 

They are under no legal obligation to contact or reprimand any of their members for not being reliable etc, they are only in place to ensure that the work he does is safe !!!

 

I spent over an hour on the phone to find this out from both parties.

 

I have found that he has not registered the boiler and even the doris said he probably doesn't want to sign it off so he doesn't have to declare the job to the tax man !!!

 

Although very understanding and putting up with me losing the head there is nothing that they can do ........... end of ...........

 

I spent another hour phoning round and have someone who is willing to come and have a look, if he thinks it's been done ok he will give me the paperwork for £150 approx.

i agree gas safe is a waste of money (a f''king rip off ) but with out it i won't get any work .

i was called to a job last year where a none registered plumber had fitted a boiler, the home owner reported him to corgi, they sent an inspector out and because it was safe they wouldn't do anything (unsless th#ts ) i thought great just spent £1200 on redoing all my exams.

they wanted me to certificate it but because the job was so rough i said no way, don't know if thet ever did get it done

Gas safe should have the power to make us certificate all our work (as i do) because it's not fair on the customer, you don't have a leg to stand on it's a f##king joke
