Retro-gone. Posted May 23, 2009 Report Posted May 23, 2009 anything to lookout for? which would be best buy? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0395556176 this is the one i prefer, basically cos its a big estate car.. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0315752745 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0306669349
mk1super Posted May 23, 2009 Report Posted May 23, 2009 Out of the 3 the astra, cheaper for parts easier to fix and more realible than the renult, my mate had a laguna and had nowt but grief with it! He called it cheap french pish
Retro-gone. Posted May 23, 2009 Author Report Posted May 23, 2009 yeah my son just told me the astra will be easy to work on, no engina management to worry about etc.
Savvi Posted May 23, 2009 Report Posted May 23, 2009 Saab will be reliable but expensive to run in terms of fuel insurance and parts, Renault ok alarm fobs go wrong at least £150 to sort plus it's French !! ....................Astras good cars cheap parts etc might still have basic engine management on that age a Vectra might be better slightly bigger and more comfortable ? I'm using a R reg Dti diesel as a runaround i picked up, owes me about £350 with new Mot but i bought it broke down and got lucky on the fault just got back from Ross on Wye in it, they normally go for around the price you want to spend though.
tt capri Posted May 23, 2009 Report Posted May 23, 2009 My brother had one of thr renault estates for a few years , nice enough car but the parts when it did go wrong were a fortune , so i would go for the astra
Retro-gone. Posted May 23, 2009 Author Report Posted May 23, 2009 cheers guys, the astra bodywork isnt quite as good as the renault but at least i can work on it myself
caprinerd Posted May 23, 2009 Report Posted May 23, 2009 i did my aprentership at renault london and i will not work on one at all now as they are crap sorry to any one on here that has one dont mean to offend, but they really are crap so steer clear mate
Mr Sam Posted May 23, 2009 Report Posted May 23, 2009 i would go for the saab and hope nothing goes wrong but its sweedish so its built to last personally would not go near the renwot and the astra is well......a vauxhall i know you were looking at a mk6 escort estate the other week, the mk6 escort is boring and crap handaling but as long as you remind yourself they are a family car and to take rounderbouts at sensible speeds they are bullet proof and quite comfy
stevepeanut Posted May 23, 2009 Report Posted May 23, 2009 our lass had a laguna RT saloon and the bloody thing ate 3 gearboxes in less than 100,000 miles!!!! they are shite doris next door had a renault megane, and she spent £4000 keeping it on the road in 2 years, and it was only 18 month old when she bought it Steering rack failed with 40k on clock, the dealer said "wear and tear" I wouldnt have a French car for free, unless it was a mid engine RWD renault 5

mk3cokebottle Posted May 23, 2009 Report Posted May 23, 2009 well thats the frog car off the list then..our lass likes this, any good? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0336920285 i can prob get it for 400-450 quid.. only 7 miles from me too. and its yellow no no no its fiat ffs anywhoo cant remember how much ya wanna spend but i have got 97/r 2.5v6 mondeo leather ,aircon, leccy windows ,tow bar proper comfy cruiser coming in on tuesday with 9 months mot/6 months tax round the £500 will buy it .
v8cortina Posted May 23, 2009 Report Posted May 23, 2009 Know a few people with Lagunas and when they start to go wrong you need deep pockets. Same goes for the Saab. The Astra will be the cheapest option to maintain. The Fiat is a nice car but parts generally tend to be expensive.
mk3cokebottle Posted May 23, 2009 Report Posted May 23, 2009 or got an r reg mk6 escort gti estate that nd's a split repairing on the bumper but it will have 12 months mot from the 6th of june and has 4 months tax on it £400
Retro-gone. Posted May 23, 2009 Author Report Posted May 23, 2009 yeah thats all well and good but you live at the other end of the world to me! im tryin to find somethin local
Savvi Posted May 24, 2009 Report Posted May 24, 2009 Tony it would be a nice ride and a day out in your current situation and he's about an hour away from Classic Honda so you could visit there as well ? You might have to take some drivers with you to get everything back home if you went on a spending spree Just a suggestion
Retro-gone. Posted May 24, 2009 Author Report Posted May 24, 2009 im buying this from charlie without veiwing it in the flesh its costing me £90 to have it delivered, i couldnt hire a van and fuel it for that could i, the little honda is one of the bikes that i remember fodly as a lad, a late friend of mine had one, im gonna restore the bike over a period of time , do odd bits when ive got absolutely fook all else to do.
Savvi Posted May 24, 2009 Report Posted May 24, 2009 Nice .................... He bought my old Super dreams off me a few years ago, he's seems a nice guy, valued my olds mans Cd200 at about £500. Is he delivering it ? He will probably tie it in with something else in his white Transit with the big Honda wings on the side If you wanted i could pop in and have a look for you ? I'm not as good on bikes as you are, but he's only 15 mins up the road, i will be going past there on Tuesday on my way to look at someones car on this forum that has some electrics problems, or Wednesday when i go to the Hospital to have my back Mri scanned.
