Loving the pics,

cortinamad, the point is back then no-one knew these were gonna be classics, and it was a very cheap form of motorsport.

Like anyfin, some people race lawnmowers now cos its a cheap rush.

As a member of the Cottered Banger Club back at the end of the 60's we would get phone calls offering to pay us to take away taxed and MOTed Mk1 Zephyrs and Zodiacs because thats what we raced no one wanted them. I payed £5 for a taxed MOTed Mk1 Consul that I used for work for a few months with nothing wrong with it! One lad turned up with a mk1 at Braefield and failed scrutineering because his car was non standard, it had triple SU's a Raymond Mays head and a Sunbeam Rapier overdrive box! Paul

takes me back to Wimbledon and Aldershot stadiums in the '70s raced bangers with the Dodge Boys but preferred Oxfords. Cambridges to Fords, but rememebr buying Z cars, Consuls etc fro couple of quid. I bought a '59 low line MkII Consul for a fiver with 8 months MOT and 3 months tax. I ran the car for 3 years as my daily driver!
