Jimbob-Squarepants © Posted December 24, 2006 Report Posted December 24, 2006 Just read that mate. The reason your ignition system runs at 9v is so it doesn't burn the points out. Some systems start on 12v and then return to 9v for continuous running. Check the voltage at the coil with a multi-meter when the car is running and revving. Firstly though, I would change all the simple easy stuff. Get a new set of plugs (NGK's), incidentally, you havn't got Bosch plugs fitted have you????? Always gap the plugs up before you fit, don't use the "box" gap. Also get yourself a new set of leads and a new distributor cap. While your there, get a new rotor arm as well, some of these are resisted and they do break down. The reason I ask if they are Bosch plugs is, they are pony. Never had much luck with those, and they break down to easy. On a final note, does your car have a rev counter fitted??? Is it standard, or is it aftermarket???? Try disconnecting it during your fault finding. Oh yeah, and re check your points gaps. Try all this, don't skip round a few bits, do it all and you should be sorted mate, I have had similar probs before with all of my cars (and friends) and nothing beats the process of illimination Have a great Xmas
