Wiring multipin connectors into a dash.

I'm planning on recovering my dashboard and the pod cluster in the Capri. At the same time, I'm looking to replace the heater assembly.

 

Earlier this year I removed the dash pod to replace the bulbs (which ended in failure). The big hassle I had was getting all the wires to stay connected as I put it back together 'cos there wasn't much give.

 

I would like to fix this by putting in place a multi-pin cluster plug (or plugs) to enable easy connection of all the wires that go to and from the cluster.

 

My question is where can I get these sort of supplies? My local factors (normally excellent) didn't come up trumps and couldn't recommend anyone.

 

Does anyone have any ideas? Also do I need to be wary of the different currents and resistances that go to and from the instruments and switches?

Hi, I have used Vehicle Wiring Products and found them very helpful.

I once did a dash change in a Lotus Elan a few years back. I cut the main loom and used mate-n-lock connectors to join it back together so I could have the clocks and switches on the dash then put the whole lot back in one piece then simply joined the connectors.

 

It would be a good idea to buy their special tool for removing the terminals in case you get the wires in the wrong order.

When it comes to selecting a plug (or plugs) do I need to be careful about getting the right rating, so that it can handle the different loads that different switches/dials use?
