  1. I use a long bolt threaded the opposite way to the backplate retention bolts. When you tighten the bolts they push the halfshaft out.
  2. On the front of my Mk1 Cortina I have used a tow strap bolted to the chassis leg where the bumper iron would be bolted as I don't have a front bumper. I assume you could do the same for an Escort. If you use a longer bolt I'm sure you could keep the bumper in place.
  3. The show is this weekend. All Fords welcome. It's fun for all the family with plenty of games and antics. Come along and support our club.
  4. Cracking job, the engine is in the hole and looks the business. Just waiting for Joe and Colin to get it running as I've run out of knowledge . Probably something simple but don't want to take any chances, I know my limits.
  5. The Pipercross airboxes come either with a filter in the box itself or you can buy one without and add a cone filter to the induction pipe that you would run to the front of the car. I do remember Practical Performance Car making an airbox from an oblong plastic planter.
  6. Though expensive, have you looked into the Pipercross 600 series airbox with a cone filter on the end of the cold air feed. It will cut down on induction noise but safer than a sponge type filter. http://www.thepipercrossshop.co.uk/pipercross-px600-airboxes-including-feed-pipe_p23378572.htm
  7. Kent Capri & Ford Club are hosting their first ever show 29-31 August at the George Inn, Chartham in Kent. Come along and support the show and our choosen charaties.
  8. There is the arguement that how original is the car anyway, they can end up like 'Triggers broom' once you've fitted a new engine, panels, and had the interior re-upholstered is it the same car that rolled off Ford's production line. Also, as mentioned some of the parts are impossible to get hold of. And why would'nt you want to uprate the brakes with something modern that works. When restoring my Capri I have used bolt on mods but all these can be reversed and the car looks as Ford intended from the outside. My Cortina was in a pretty sorry state and I wanted to make a trackday car so I have gone with a race theme but it could all be reversed with a bit of angle grinding. However, if one of my cars was a special eg. an RS3100 Capri I would certainly keep it original. I can see both sides to this debate, I think it's your car, your money and it's you that has to live with the car at the end of the day. I'm sure in the height of the 70's custom scene people didn't think twice about cutting up an original car to jack it up, paint it purple and cover the seats in leopard print faux fur.
  9. I have his rear disc conversion and it's spot on and he's very helpful.
  10. I use to use Ku-rust which is ok but now I use… Vinegar! I kid you not, the sort you put on your chips. Put the parts in a tub cover with vinegar and leave for a few days and low and behold out comes a rust free bit of metal. Etch-prime it and you've saved a fortune on rust remedies. I have also use molasses but vinegar is easier to get hold of.
  11. I'm after a pinto 205 block and end caps, standard bore preferred. I'm located near Croydon and will travel within reason or organise a courier if the price is ok. many thanks Pete
  12. I'm interested but will full width oil pan clear the cross member of a Mk1 Cortina with rack conversion. (rear bowl sump like Escort). Cheers
  13. I quite fancy the one with the black rocker cover
  14. Can you give me any more information on the BOA and MT75? Condition/price that sort of thing. many thanks
  15. I'll be watching the weather. I don't mind taking the Capri out in the wet, I just find car show in the rain depressing. Hopefully see you there
  16. Is anyone going along this Saturday. Though it's a small show there are usually a good selection of cars, and other stuff going on. http://www.capelcarshow.com/ I'll be there in the Capri
  17. you could apply a couple of coats of black paint to the rims and get the same effect
  18. I hope to be there with about 3 others from the Kent Capri Club.
  19. Have you thought of a 4AGE from a Toyota MR2, I think 105speed do all the conversion bits great tuning potential as well. Retro Ford mag did the conversion a couple of years back with their Anglia. Just wanted to ad to the dilema.
  20. Nice work, that looks fantastic. Can you tell me where the exhaust manifold came from?
  21. Fantastic pictures, looked to be a great day.
  22. It's not particularly interesting… but when I bought the car it came with Lotus Steels. I have since had them refurbished and they don't as yet have tyres and I don't want them on the car incase they get damaged - they are very pretty wheels. The spare is just the standard cortina steel and I had a couple of the old wheels from my Mk1 Capri knocking about. The front of the car was on castors so I didn't worry about only having 3 wheels. Now I have front suspension back on and need another wheel so I can move the car. I don't know what happened to the other 2 capri wheels.
