  3. I was the same when I had a twin stainless first on my V6 mk1 esc, I was disappointed with the sound but 30 miles later it started opening up lovely
  4. I used flexy to the calipers as it made it easier to change the pads, no need to disconnect the hydraulics...

  12. I agree with Dalmarshall , things like buyimg engines off e bay are always dangerous unless you hear them running , your stumbling block now is you've stripped it down . Firstly did it not start ' knocking ' and making a noise prior to seizing ? if so or if not you should have contacted him before stripping and said either ' i want you to come and either listen to this engine making a noise or see that this engine has seized , then said ' and bring my money with you please ' , if he declines then you get an independant engineer to strip it and report . But who's to say that he wont say ' well they are not the bearings i fitted , thats not the head i fitted , thats not the engine i sold you , Tricky one now i'm afraid .
  13. Go Martian .....good luck
  14. It 's all down to what you want to do with car IMO, crossflow are a great engine when tuned , look at mk2 Mikes that we built and installed for him , we done it as a road car with just over 150 bhp and its great , I know cos I built the engine and I,ve driven the car , If I was going to use the car all the time and clock up thousands of miles per year then I would consider a Zetec on carbs , the new Weber 152,s work great on the Zetec , we done an engine refresh on a mk2 escort with a ST170 on 45,s and it made exactly 170 bhp on the rolling road and drove fantastic , the let down on Zetec's is the torque figures are crap , a pinto producing the same BHP would slaughter a Zetec because the torque is far superior , we built a 171 bhp pinto for Martin Saunders tiger kit car and the same cars running Zetec,s cant live with him hope this helps with your options but obviously its down to your budget as well .....
