Hi, I'm after a favour of loan or gift of an old steel wheel with tyre that I can use to move my mk1 cortina around. I don't want to put the Lotus steels on yet and I only have 3 wheels (it's a long story). I just need to push the car so the wheel and tyre don't need to be in great condition. I'm near croydon and any help would be much appreciated.

Could you use a very thin cutting disc to carefully cut the bolt either side of the spring?

The spacer that has the small hole for the brake fluid has a cut-out seat for an O-ring. This needs to be mirrored between left and right or the O-ring won't have a cut-out to sit in on one side.

Thanks for the reply, I did the other caliper last night to discover that the spacers I have are both left hand side. so back to the drawing board.

I'm in the process of building up my front brakes on the Cortina. I bought a new pair of M16s and spacer kit from Rally Design so I can fit vented discs but I can't find a torque setting for the bolts. I know they were bloody tight when I undid them. Also should I use thread-lock. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi I've used the Rally Design bushes, they fit reasonably ok.

If a Mk1 Cortina pedal is the same as an Anglia then I have one which you can have for a small fee. I could even drop it down to the Ashton fellas.

I think reversing into the engine on the crane was a stunt to make good telle. Why would you have a rusty old engine hanging on a crane blocking the door anyway? I enjoyed the show but I think they cut corners with the restoration. I certainly would put a set of brake discs on my car that came out of a skip. I entered the competition before I watched the show if I win I think I'll put it on eBay.

Unless your gutter rails need attention I would leave them in place as you will most likely bend, dent or scratch them trying to lever them off. When mine was resprayed they were left in place.

If you're going bespoke with the wiring like adding extra gauges etc then you could use a neat box of tricks sold by Car Builder Solutions (CBS). They sell a module with all the relays, correctly rated fuses and flasher unit, all you do is attach the components and switches with the right thickness wire. Can anyone recommend a tyre profile and/or manufacturer for Lotus Steels. The car will be used for trackdays and the suspension will be pretty hard so I don't want rubber bands that will make the ride too harsh but I do favor the South London look (I do come from Croydon after all). Any pictures would be great. cheers

I think the banded steels would look the business or no 2 or 4 of the alloys

I have a bias pedal box going in my Cortina but it doesn't have any return springs on the pedals . Has any one fitted any? Some pictures would be helpful. cheers Pete
