i have two rust holes in my foot well what would be the best metal to use to cover thans

Depends what your going for. I patched a hole in my floor with a piece cut from an old front wing. I figure if no one will see it then what does it matter. Ofcourse if its a big hole cut the whole thing out back to good metal and replace it with a new one

my dad tried to weld my car with a spear wheel tub out of his capri but was going strait thro i shall try the wing nice one mate

That would prob only be the same metal mate. Sounds like the problem is your putting too much heat into it. Try practicing with different settings on a scrap piece of the material you intend to use until it dosnt blow through but you get enough penetration. also try and make sure you are welding on good metal i.e. not rusted.
