rudel Posted November 26, 2009 Report Posted November 26, 2009 Has anyone here ever painted their block while engine is still in the car? i have removed the gearbox and had it rebuilt and want to freshen the block too....or would it be easier to pull the engine out and paint it and fit the box and engine together then reistall them as one item??? Worried about fitting the complete lot and damaging the slam panel and inner wings etc Any ideas guys and gals??? PS it is a mk1 Escort Mex Cheers
Fiesta Steve Posted November 26, 2009 Report Posted November 26, 2009 Weather you paint it in or out of the engine bay don't forget it needs to be 101% free from oil/grease/grim for the paint to have any chance of sticking. Its much easier to clean an engine thats out
jimbo Posted November 26, 2009 Report Posted November 26, 2009 I'd say that if the gearbox is out you're half way there to getting the lump out. Just protect your body work and have a good hoist/plenty of manpower available when you put it all back in. And take your time!!!

rallyesport04 Posted November 26, 2009 Report Posted November 26, 2009 you will make a much better job of it if you pull the lump out plus you will be able to tidy up the engine bay at the same time wont take long to ake the engine out
