samurai Posted December 2, 2009 Report Posted December 2, 2009 I got a quote today for 200 pounds plus vat to rebuild my english diff! So ill rebuild it myself I have the rebuild kit already. I think ill do a photo build up and stick it on the "How to guide" Any tips?
Admin Mk2Jo Posted December 2, 2009 Admin Report Posted December 2, 2009 Colin Ashton (Ashton Mobile Services) did mine - he is in Caterham
Admin Mk2Jo Posted December 2, 2009 Admin Report Posted December 2, 2009 He did other bits as well so couldn't tell you how much just for the diff ... give him a call on: 0208 669 6092
samurai Posted December 2, 2009 Author Report Posted December 2, 2009 I just called If i strip it and hand it over,100 pounds for rebuild for the couple of hours build. I liked the idea of doing it myself and i know its not something you mess with as it can be expensive if it goes wrong Thinking time
Admin Mk2Jo Posted December 2, 2009 Admin Report Posted December 2, 2009 if you fook it up it could cost you more than £100 I would only rebuild it if you know what you're doing OR if you have a mate to help/advise you who knows what they are doing
samurai Posted December 2, 2009 Author Report Posted December 2, 2009 I guess the 100 pounds is worth the guarantee if it fails
Admin Mk2Jo Posted December 2, 2009 Admin Report Posted December 2, 2009 It won't fail - Colin knows his stuff He is proper Old Skool
samurai Posted December 2, 2009 Author Report Posted December 2, 2009 Whats his address? The sooner i get it to him the faster i can get driving
Admin Mk2Jo Posted December 2, 2009 Admin Report Posted December 2, 2009 Whats his address? The sooner i get it to him the faster i can get driving Dunno the address, I just know how to drive there You will need to call him to book it in anyway
Joe-ashtonmobile Posted December 2, 2009 Report Posted December 2, 2009 mate give us a call 02086696092 will give details over phone for where to drop it to
Wessie Posted December 2, 2009 Report Posted December 2, 2009 if you have a diff fail while driving along it could easily result in writing the car off
samurai Posted December 2, 2009 Author Report Posted December 2, 2009 I will do,just need to find someone to give me a lift now as the mex is up in the air and this diff is heavy!
Joe-ashtonmobile Posted December 2, 2009 Report Posted December 2, 2009 We could most likely collect for some fuel money
H.P.E harry Posted December 3, 2009 Report Posted December 3, 2009 I was going to have a go myself but when my grandad told me it could blow up the diff if i got it wrong then i didnt think twice about handing it over to him
samurai Posted December 4, 2009 Author Report Posted December 4, 2009 New news! My diff is fooked! Rang around and no one has any 3.7 diffs! I got 1 guy calling me back tomorrow as he is not in the workshop. Anyone know where 1 is that is not fooked?
rallyesport04 Posted December 4, 2009 Report Posted December 4, 2009 when you say its fooked what bit is it the cwp or??? 3.7 diffs are probably the most expensive diffs to get
samurai Posted December 4, 2009 Author Report Posted December 4, 2009 when you say its fooked what bit is it the cwp or??? 3.7 diffs are probably the most expensive diffs to get The crush washer was fooked so the pinion moved about and the planet gears have lines on them and aston mobile told me that the crown wheel and pinion have wear and shape edges and the friction built up and made everything hot and thats why it smelt so baddd when i took the diff off!
mk1mexico Posted December 4, 2009 Report Posted December 4, 2009 Get a 3.9 for the difference in price, the 3.7 came in Mexico's hence the RS 'tax'.
samurai Posted December 4, 2009 Author Report Posted December 4, 2009 I like the 3.7,it will also suit my distance driving and i think the engine is revy enough as it is Really most people are all out of diffs! people must be doing serious winter rebuilds
Joe-ashtonmobile Posted December 4, 2009 Report Posted December 4, 2009 3.9 will def be more fun, 3.7 is for grandads
samurai Posted December 4, 2009 Author Report Posted December 4, 2009 Naa really with a 3.9 it would be like driving everywhere is 1st gear I just have to play the waiting game till 1 comes along.Maybe tomorrow ill be lucky.
Joe-ashtonmobile Posted December 5, 2009 Report Posted December 5, 2009 No it wouldnt 3.9 are a nice crusing diff, if u said u had a 4.4 or 4.1 i would say yer a lil lairy arent they, but the best for the traffic light 0-60 see u later japcrap sprint, anything under a 4.1 is grandads driving
