Removing Diff

Dropping my diff out of my Anglia tonight... any tips?

Something to catch the gear oil..... I swallowed most of mine

Something to hold the diff cos there bloody heavy!

Yeah I hate gearoil!! It's quite fresh so shouldn't be tooo bad!

 

I was gonna loosen diff bolts & drain oil, the remove half shafts & pull out diff.

 

Never done it before & I haven't really read up on how to do it so fingers crossed!

I removed a diff for the first time ever on mine which has a 105e rear too. I was shocked at how easy it was. The halfshafts came out with only a small tap but that must have been luck, or they were about to fall out

I've got an old wheel & a big hammer ready for if they refuse to budge

the hardest things getting the shafts out if they dont want to come

 

you might need a slide hammer

Take a photo of the brakes before you take them apart. I can never remember how they go.

take a photo of cars rear end/ it may never be the same again.

All done started at 6, all tools tidied away (in a pile) washed up & sat here in my pants. Wasn't too bad, one of the halfshafts really didn't want to come out so I got to use my hammer Very little oil was spilled & no swearing

 

I removed the diff cos it was really noisy in top gear (deffo the diff not the g/box) but I can't see any wear or damage

diffs normaly make noise on over run. halfsharft bearings get louder with speed

yeah it's noisy as I back off! Slight whine on acceleration but then a horrible grindy noise as I back off
