Toolbox Posted March 29, 2010 Report Posted March 29, 2010 Got home last night with a cloud of smoke under the bonnet. Had a look this morning and it seems that next to the exhaust manifold on the block there is like a round plug and coolant is pissing out of it when i start the engine onto the exhaust manifold. Can anyone help with fixing this???? Shed some light?? thanks ( 2.0 pinto btw)
banarama Posted March 29, 2010 Report Posted March 29, 2010 yes they are called core plugs just hooloki it out with a screw driver ,clean around edge with sand paper, you can buy them from most motor factors take your old one with you so you make sure you getthe right size tap new one in with socket, they usually rust with age i would flush the water through the engine first refil with fresh antifreeze.these core plugs are all round the engine block/ and head.the worst one is on the back of the block just below the top of the gearbox, which means gearbox out if that one goes, good luck.
Grizzley Dell Posted March 29, 2010 Report Posted March 29, 2010 yeah easy to change but dont knock new one in to far as they pop through.

Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted March 29, 2010 Report Posted March 29, 2010 as above but are you sure you dont have other cooling system issues because not long ago you were having some sort of problem werent you ??
Toolbox Posted March 29, 2010 Author Report Posted March 29, 2010 as above but are you sure you dont have other cooling system issues because not long ago you were having some sort of problem werent you ?? I am DAMN sure of that. Anyone know the 100% correct way of correctly bleeding the system? Just leave it to run with the cap off for 15mins??? I put it in with a socket using some instant gasket around the edges. I think im going to get some rad weld in the system tomorrow aswell to be 100% certain. - wouldnt do it any harm anyway?? I got the plug from half-fords cheers posse.
Guest cortinamad-gonetoo Posted March 29, 2010 Report Posted March 29, 2010 i wouldnt bother with the rad weld i just warm it up with cap off then a quick drive with cap on then recheck it when its cooled off a bit
Toolbox Posted March 29, 2010 Author Report Posted March 29, 2010 i wouldnt bother with the rad weld Well im hoping it will sort out other problems (over heating)
baz105e Posted March 30, 2010 Report Posted March 30, 2010 rad weld could block your radiator if you're not carefull
Toolbox Posted March 30, 2010 Author Report Posted March 30, 2010 YAY!! Over heating problem fixed lol.. Small tub of rad weld, re bled the system again and RAGGED it all the way home with the gauage barely going over half. So a big thumbs up to everyone that helped me with this. cheers
