Scotch Corner meets

As some of you will know yesterdays meet was massive. We reckon it topped 300 cars!

After having given it great thought i have decided to make future meets for oldskool cars only. I know this will upset some people but i feel that we have enough of old and new to hold separate meets. After chatting to people and reading comments i have come to this decision. I hope all the oldskool cars will continue to support this great meet. There will be no meet next month but all been well the next will be in May.

personally i like the first meet of the year i like seeing the sierras and that red/white mk5 escort was cool and that monster rally car

 

the blue mk4 escort and mk2 fiesta too

 

those of you that dont like the newer stuff dont have to look at it

 

we get exactally the same from classic ford show too now

 

oh theres far too much new stuff there far too much plastic

 

no theyre not welcome on this site as it clearly states no plastic

 

but it is also true mk2 fiestas sierras mk3 erscorts are classic cars now plastic and front wheel drive doesnt stop a car being a classic

 

the first meet is the only one i make effort to go to as its like a mini cf show

 

im a bit sad that its come to a end that way

I think the split's a good thing it wouldn't have bothered me so much all the new stuff being there if old skool car hadn't been turned away, imo the venue is just too small to cater for all on the same day.

i enjoyed the meet, im not bothtered about newer stuff, but it did,nt mind it been there, i choose not to look at it.

whilst i was in the bar avin a coffee a bloke was having a right go at a young member of the hotel staff cuz he could,nt park his car at the leisure

center, moaning he pay,s over 500 quid a year to use that facility, i felt soory for the young lad he was avin a go at, my wife grabbed my arm you stay put , she said. moaner could go running on the A1 for nowt.

my car was 1 of only 3 RS2,s on site. even the wife enjoyed it so gota be a bonus, bbut i had to let her drive home.

i think its a good decision.

 

The meet has become too big in some ways and the new needs to be trimmed out so that there is mroe room for old...after all it was originally a capri meet!

for instance I consider 2.8 capris to be oldskool but they were fairly modern in some design respects, power steering fuel injection

i wont be driving 75 miles each way just for a small meet.

 

this one is big yeah and maybe just finding a different venue for the first meet of the year

 

because the rest of the meets at scotch corner there is only about 30 40 cars if that at some meets

That's where it gets tough1 but i think if they are having there own meet that it shouldn't be a problem. As Ant rightly say's it did start as a capri meet so i hope it is going back to its roots and still does well just been oldskool

i think it should be mixed becaus both me and my partner like to take both out cars to these type of places and he drives a cosworth

Sorry you feel that way Dave, i did think of finding a different venue. But i decided to stick with Scotch Corner, as for the size of the meet yesterday was the final straw for me. Normally i really enjoy the meets as i get time to chat to a great group of friends that i have made through these meets plus take some photo's. Yesterday i never even had chance to eat my dinner never mind chat to many people. Plus it really hurt having to turn cars away, maybe i should have gone somewhere else but the hotel have been good to us for the last four years now.

I was a little bit dissapointed to get turned away, but did sneak in at the end. Theres a lot of people who must only come to the first meet hoping to get their car in the magazines, but they dont come the rest of the year and support the other meets. Through meeting Andy, I have made some great friends over the last 2 years, and I love scotch corner cos we all catch up and its like a big family.

A good centralised meeting point up north and the run back home is some good villages and country roads.

I've no idea if anyone cleared it that the extra cars were ok to go to the services, imagine if there had been a phone call from the services to the hotel saying "what you doing sending all these cars over here" and that could have been the end of it

its ace when you get your car in the magazine, I got proper excited when my mk2 escort was in retroford mag, and then later my capri was in classicford too

I am a fan of both, i attend meets with my brother in his RS Focus, but as you rightly say it has got to big for that venue. As for the services that was a last minute decision and as you say it could have been the end!
