ANDY ELLIS Posted March 29, 2010 Author Report Posted March 29, 2010 i love the scotch corner meets. Its a good run out for me and my Pa and we get to catch up with all the guys who live not so close to us like Tom Cope, his mate Nick, Steve of peanut land and misses....its great. A good centralised meeting point up north and the run back home is some good villages and country roads. Id still go if only 10 cars turned up me too I'd be there with 10 cars, I dont actually mind the new stuff, but its just too big. The the services was rammed too, they could have kicked off cos that place was getting pretty full. I've no idea if anyone cleared it that the extra cars were ok to go to the services, imagine if there had been a phone call from the services to the hotel saying "what you doing sending all these cars over here" and that could have been the end of it I am a fan of both, i attend meets with my brother in his RS Focus, but as you rightly say it has got to big for that venue. As for the services that was a last minute decision and as you say it could have been the end! thats why i suggested a bigger venue for the first meet of the year, then the rest at scotch corner Fair point mate, but as i said i did give it a lot of thought but rightly or wrongly i have made this call
dawesy1700 Posted March 30, 2010 Report Posted March 30, 2010 the thing is though, how do you stop new skool cars turning up??? we have no rights to scotch corner car park, and any security that is hired or volunteered have no right to stop people either, you can say keep it old skool but if word gets out that theres a meet on then anyone can and will rightly turn up, it just means theres gonna be a divide between the old skool lads n new skool lads, i dont like plastic fords but enjoy talking to people who like other stuff, its a shame its not mixed now. think its a bad idea personally. we wouldnt be happy if glen tried to stop old skool turnin up, just a thought.

Sundays meet was good, and proper busy, but I wouldnt have liked to have been in Andy's shoes trying to run and organise it all. Its meant to be fun, but Andy and the other marshalls looked stressed. Once it goes old ford, theres bound to be a small amount of new cars turn up. I go to the retro rides meet in wakey which is for old cars, but theres still a few new cars turn up and they are made welcome.
dawesy1700 Posted March 30, 2010 Report Posted March 30, 2010 oh yeah, no doubt about it, it was a very busy weekend n alot of peeps were stressed, but that screams out to me that the venue was too small, if it gets to be that big on a regular basis, even with just old skool motors, what cars are gonna get banned next?? if too many escorts turn up, they gonna get told not to come back? scotch corner, to me n what sounds like quite a few others, is startin to outgrow the venue, if people like the meets as much as me and as much as they say they do they'll follow it to another, bigger venue, its just a massive shame to cut out half of the people because the venues too small now, once again though, this is just my thoughts n opinions.

Guest chriscapriman Posted March 31, 2010 Report Posted March 31, 2010 im with the organiser on this one, 7 of us drove over 150 miles all in old fords (except one aussie pick up truck and a mk6 scort), got there for 1pm and had to park in the services, was gutted and to see the row of mondeos and 53plate fezzas takin up space that could of been filled with more interesting metal made it even worse would be shame to loose all the R S T and co55ies tho if you have a rule similar to this site andy pictures nicked from mk3laserboy see all the mondys who must of got there about 10am

I find this predjadice towards the newer fords quite alarming tbh, as most people know of the meet as Scotch Corner ALL ford meet. As far as the thread starters idea of splitting it to two seperate meets, i think its a good idea, especially if SOME of the older ford owners dont want to see the newer fords. i have never heard of any of the newer ford owners complaining and not wanting to see the older fords on the other hand, at the end of the day, old to new shows the progression of FMC as a company over the years, and being ford fans, i enjoy both new and old. i also believe that the meet has now outgrown the venue, especially at the first meet of the year, as that seems to generate a lot more interest than the rest of the year, but maybe thats due to the chance of getting your car in a magazine, and not so much the love of fords, as the magazines attend the first meet of the year. Maybe this could have been avoided if the co organisers had communicated better. i found it funny that when one co organiser arrived, he was stopped by the marshalls and told where to park, they obviously didnt have any idea who he was. I personally wish the best of luck to both meets in the future, i will still attend both, as i have only missed SC three times since 2007, and genuinely enjoy looking at all fords, new and old.

As said, if the SC meets go there sperate ways, new and old, i will still attend both, and genuinely wish the best of luck to both meets/organisers.
stevepeanut Posted March 31, 2010 Report Posted March 31, 2010 If the meet does split into 2, which it looks like its going to, maybe there is still enough interest to have a a huge all ford meet once or twice a year. It would need a very very big venue (keep hearing people mentioning darlington football club). Also it would need a lot of organising, but hey its a free world, theres nothing stopping anyone organising their own big meet, I'll support it and go, and spread the word to as many people I know in the ford scene.
Guest chriscapriman Posted March 31, 2010 Report Posted March 31, 2010 mondeos are great cars, just not very interesting to me, if i want to go and look at em, i can look at my neighbours, or all the ones in tesco, or all the ones in the ford dealers round the corner MUNDANO id hardley say im narrow minded, i too like all fords, just prefere older stuff, not pre-81, but saphs, rs's etc etc, do draw the line at mundanoes and focuss tho, they are just boring cos they are are so common, more interesting/amusing when chaved up with shiney bits tho stock st220 for the win my mate has just got one and its fiit, just dull

'my cossie is more important than a mondeo', 'my rs turbo is more important than a capri' etc, they just accepted they car park was full, couldnt get parked, so had to walk over from the services, and still enjoyed the day, because as most of the atendees feel, no one car is more important than other.

Guest chriscapriman Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 would you like to join this site and have a go there too majority welcome the changes for the same reasons as me http://www.capripower.co.uk/forum/index ... ch-corner/ and in response to this .-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Re: Apparently We Wernt Welcome @ SC by Fiddy on Thu 01 Apr, 2010 12:08 pm Kenny wrote: Haha dont knock Capris Craig lol I've had a couple in the past if they want to cast up old fords forget pre-81 I've had anglias zodiacs zephers Mk1&2 cortinas as well as a good few 70's fords so just because he own a shonky old ford dosent make it any better than ours . Im not knocking them kenny, my comment was stated as a reply to his 'if i want to see a mondeo, ill go to tesco car park' comment, i get a feeling that the only kind of answer he understands is on a 'you diss me, i diss you' basis. as i have been very conservative and grown up in my reply, but it doesnt seem to have set home, and he also has a problem with me posting this thread to let everone know his feelings on our 'uniteresting' cars. i can actually undertstand where he is coming from to a certain extent, mondys are not everyones cup of tea, thats fair enough, each to his own, and he is as entitled to his opinion as anyone else, im not saying he isnt. as i have stated, my veiw is not based on his veiw of mondeos, but on his opinion that we should have been moved to create more space for more 'interesting' metal, and the fact he had a problem with what time we arrived, especially after the amount of time, money, and effort, that was made by SMF members to attend SC, which was appreciated by the co organiser, who actually thanked me personally for SMF making the effort to attend. as its the ALL FORD MEET, we, and anyone else has as much rite to be there as any other car/owner. i wasnt suggesting yopu should all be moved to make room for the better cars fair play, like me, it cost you all money to get there and you were there before me which is sound, i dont care that much, as i said, I WAS HAVING A JOKE WITH A USER ON THIS SITE, no need to go running hiome to say 'apparently we wernt welcome at sc' who cares what little old me thinks, ive only been to scotch corner twice
Fiddy Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 what are you on about worded my opinions better on a site called OLD SKOOL FORD you were surprised to find someone on an site called OLD SKOOL FORD doesnt find mondeos particularly interesteing so why did you join here then?? to cause trouble and see how angry you could make the users of 'your' forum?? perhaps i enjoyed the day, and i wasnt moaning about being parked in the services, i was merly commenting that it was gutting so mr STAFF, fuel the fire even further and show what a nice bunch you scotish mondy owners done well so far What am i on about ?, you complaing that at an ALL FORD MEET, certain cars should take priority over others, is that to difficult for you to understand ? This isnt an old school versus new school thing, its an over opinionated person felling his/other car/s is more important than others. maybe if you wanted to see more old school, you shouldnt have attended an ALL FORD MEET, and gone to an OLD SCHOOL FORD MEET, simples
