xpackken Posted May 25, 2010 Report Posted May 25, 2010 Whats the best option to get your escort running a slipper if u just have a base 1300 model ? do most people just use 2.8i capri axles ?? or are they wider ??
SmokeEm Posted May 25, 2010 Report Posted May 25, 2010 Caori axle is much wider than an escort and the 2.8i's 3.09 gearing would be no good at all. Get yourself a plate type LSD with gearing around 4.1
Admin Mk2Jo Posted May 25, 2010 Admin Report Posted May 25, 2010 It depends what you want to do with the car .... for normal on the road running a 3.9 will be perhaps more suitable than a 4.1 I would have thought
xpackken Posted May 25, 2010 Author Report Posted May 25, 2010 It depends what you want to do with the car .... for normal on the road running a 3.9 will be perhaps more suitable than a 4.1 I would have thought right now your all talking gibrish again , its gona be a road used mk2 with a 200sx engine fitted approx (220-240 bhp), i havnt even got the shell yet but that will have hopefully have change by mid june i already got alot of the bits to build it thou ha ha so do all mk2s have the same axle fitted as standard , and do i just by the diff part and fitted to original 1300 casing , ?? I AM SO LIMTED WITH MECHANICAL KNOWLEDGE EXSPECIALLY WITH ESCORT LINGO
flord escort Posted May 25, 2010 Report Posted May 25, 2010 the standard english axle fitted to all uk mk2 escorts is good for about 150 bhp up grade to either a plate (sliper) lsd or an ATB quaife unit and it should cope with 250bhp the numbers quoted relate to the final drive 3.09 gives high top end but not good off the line 3.9 is the best of both 4.1 good acceleration but limited top i use a 3.9 atb with heavy duty drive shafts. hope that helps
over_head_cam Posted May 25, 2010 Report Posted May 25, 2010 Mk2's have what's called an English or Salisbury axle The casings are the same on Mk2 Escorts (though other cars shared the same configuration so other axle lengths are available)and came in various guises with different brackets etc. for different applications. As has been said, the final drive ratio of most was 3.89:1 which is a good all round differential for both acceleration and top end. A 4.4:1 ratio will give you wicked pull away but really short gears and no top end LSD = Limited slip diff. All the diffs are interchangeable and are separate from the axle casing.
texr2000 Posted May 26, 2010 Report Posted May 26, 2010 how do plate (sliper) lsd and ATB compare? i had a ATB in my focus RS and was odd, but in RWD sure it will be different, but i found it could still spin one wheel before it moves power around. does this mean u'd spin the inside wheel still?
