mk1rob Posted June 7, 2010 Report Posted June 7, 2010 Hi. Decided id like to get a welder but have no idea what to get. Ive never done it before but want to learn so i dont have to keep takin my car to a garage to get bits patched up. Can anyone recommend what i need? Been looking at this one on ebay. Whats peoples thoughts? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SEALEY-100Amp-No- ... 2720wt_913 Thanks!
GT_lenny Posted June 7, 2010 Report Posted June 7, 2010 my opinion of no-gas welders is simple- avoid them like the plague for a good hobby use mig machine mart take some beating 100-130amp will be plenty for welding panels but if you want to use it for fabrication using heavier gauge steel(more than about 4mmthick) you might want to start looking at 150 and above ampage welders
over_head_cam Posted June 7, 2010 Report Posted June 7, 2010 I must say, that one wouldn't be my first choice either I would deffo recommend one with a Euro torch too, as they are much easier to change, although sometimes harder to use because of the stiffness. Gas/no gas can be an advantage if you need to weld outside and don't want all your gas blowing away. But the welds - although solid - are never really very nice and you get half a ton of splatter for a 1 inch weld.
mk2*mad Posted June 7, 2010 Report Posted June 7, 2010 cebora 130 turbo. Snap on rebadge these but cebora are THE brand when it comes to welders. My 130 welds anything you will ever need to on a car, can pick them up for £150 second hand. You really do get what you pay for
mk1rob Posted June 8, 2010 Author Report Posted June 8, 2010 Ok thanks for that advice! Ill look into it
