silverstreak Posted July 15, 2010 Report Posted July 15, 2010 going to fit a new pair of tca arms to my mk2 hope nothing is seized not done it b4 how long should it take anyone know
RossMK2 Posted July 15, 2010 Report Posted July 15, 2010 id say bout 45mins to hour a side depending how easily you manage to allign the tca bush at crossmember end to hole in crossmember i found
Fishtailparka Posted July 15, 2010 Report Posted July 15, 2010 About 3 days to get the old ones off if you have never done it before. About an hour to replace both sides if you are well practiced and not rushing. If the bits that go through the bottom of the strut have a split pin and you really can't get the pin out just undo the nut. The pin will shear off. If you can't get that bit out after the nut is off lever tca down with a long bar against the crossmember and smack the bit on the strut it goes through with a hammer. Don't be shy, but don't miss. A ratchet strap across the antiroll bar lets you get the inner boltholes lined up. I wouldn't even attempt it without one. As a last resort you can use a doubled piece of rope instead and use a bar to twist it tighter. Lock it off by wedging the bar under the crossmember or sump. If you find the nuts for the strut end of the tca won't tighten because it is turning inside the strut put a jack underneath it to hold it in tight. Use axle stands!!!
silverstreak Posted July 16, 2010 Author Report Posted July 16, 2010 ok thanks it sounds like a bit of fun
over_head_cam Posted July 17, 2010 Report Posted July 17, 2010 Where are you based m8? Perhaps an OSFer who is local could lend a hand?
Beakster Posted July 18, 2010 Report Posted July 18, 2010 Yo, i did this just the other day and did a write up on www.capriwiki.com. Take a look here: http://www.capriwiki.com/index.php?titl ... -_Beakster Escort mk1 and mk2 use the same TCAs as mk1/2/3 Capris so same should apply. You should beable to do the whole thing in under 3 hours.
