bob wiggins Posted August 18, 2010 Report Posted August 18, 2010 I am putting pinto into an escort but cars being painted Inside next week . I need to change where the gear stick hole comes out but need exact measurements as I have not a gearbox yet so can't dummy fit it ,can anybody please help ..........
LEONMEX Posted August 18, 2010 Report Posted August 18, 2010 when i fitted my 5 speed i think we moved the hole back about 1.5" if my memory serves me right. I cut it out & turned it round then welded it back in. Im sure 1.5" was right bob but can't check as ive chopped it out now Hope all is well mate
bob wiggins Posted August 18, 2010 Author Report Posted August 18, 2010 cheers Leon, thanks for the info mate but i need exact measurements ,i seem to remember having to move the hole to fit a cortina 4 speed box but not really sure ,i would rather fit a 4 speed if i dont need to move the hole
dave waudby Posted August 18, 2010 Report Posted August 18, 2010 i think you will still need to move the hole even if you fit a 4 speed / pinto compatible box unless you fit the xflow 4 speed but the pinto will soon pull it to bits
bob wiggins Posted August 18, 2010 Author Report Posted August 18, 2010 Thanks for your reply mate ,I'd be happy with a 4 speed but it was so long ago I can't remember now ,got the welder ready for Friday but don't want to cut anything unless I really have to
bob wiggins Posted August 19, 2010 Author Report Posted August 19, 2010 Any one else got any ideas of whether a pinto and 4 speed rs or cortina box will fit without moving gearstick hole ?
Admin Mk2Jo Posted August 19, 2010 Admin Report Posted August 19, 2010 Moving your thread to Old Skool Chat Bob as it may bring up some more replies seeing as you are running tight for time
bob wiggins Posted August 19, 2010 Author Report Posted August 19, 2010 Thankyou Jo I like your thinking that will be read much more thankyou
mk1estate Posted August 19, 2010 Report Posted August 19, 2010 Why not cut a nice neat oblong hole then get it painted with the bit cut out and then just rivit in place when you get the box in, should still look neat
GT_lenny Posted August 19, 2010 Report Posted August 19, 2010 i think theres a guide in the "how to" room on here
James HPE Motorsport Posted August 19, 2010 Report Posted August 19, 2010 You deffo have to move the hole for rocket box or type 9, just cant remember how much by! Hows things anyway? havnt seen you for a while!!!
