to be honest i couldnt care who the stig is or who was the stig before him what does matter is how he throws them cars about on track infront of the cameras. its the medias an general publics fault his identity has been revealed if people didnt try to find out who he is they wouldnt have found out but its catch 22 create that sort of mystery an people will dig deep to find out

I have been lead to believe that the Stig concept was developed to allow the use of multiple drivers (of which Ben Collins maybe one) with limited controversy. One of the main reasons for this (along with availability) is to allow manufactures to user their own test drivers as some withheld permission for lap times to be set under any other circumstances (for example Schumacher and the FXX)

The "death" of the first Stig was a tool used to propagate the notion of individuality (and it was funny).

It's a simple theory which seems to makes sense, the only problem is it sort of draws a line under all the guessing games and oh how we do like to speculate.

You are indeed correct on all accounts

It makes perfect sense to me, you get the best driver for the type of vehicle being used, as said it's only the curosity of the public and press that, as always, have blown it all out of proportion along with the BBC playing on the fact when it got popular.

It's going to be interesting what happens in the new series.
