Guest Posted December 12, 2010 Report Posted December 12, 2010 Hi i am about to purchase my first ever car project a rolling consul mk1 shell, my question is what would be the cheapest donor car without to mush work to get a running project, i have no skills as yet but quick learner. Speed is not a issue yet. But i havent a clue what engine would drop straight in. cheers rich
Jeff HPE Motorsport Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 Hello Rich that MK1 is crying out for Sierra pinto running gear " keep it Ford" I am not sure if it will go in without some mods though but then any engine conversion would need some modifications done to it! Back in the eighties Myself & my Family used to fit V6 & V8 ford engines into MK1 & MK2 Consuls/Zephyr/Zodiacs with not alot to modify! Good luck though I have always said one day if I got a MK1 Consul it would have a real nice pinto in it! Jeff Harris..
cozmic Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 Don,t forget old ford auto's do the ford pinto engine and capri steering/suspension conversion
mk3cokebottle Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 theres loads you can do with a consul mate as mr harris as said the v6/v8 conversion is fairly easy , and also the pinto ive added the details for old ford auto's that ^^^ suggested so you can get on the blower for a mail order catologue Old Ford Auto Services Park Farm Westend Lane Warfield Bracknell Berkshire RG42 5RH Tel: 01344 422731 Fax: 01344 307196 E-Mail: info@oldfordautos.com
Guest Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 cheers lads for advice, still thinking about it at the minute as it would be my first project and i have no previous car experience. The shell is all i would get for £400 with no wings etc. Is this to much for an empty shell also worried about if i were to get stuck what would i do.
lotusless Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 i would say try to buy a car with as many spares as you can m8, as for the price it all depends how much work it needs + finding the bits that are missing. have a look on the owners club site below.. the black consul in the sales bit is all complete + has a good reg plate too + he wants £1000 for it. good luck http://www.fivestars.co.uk/Home/tabid/218/Default.aspx

I am asuming you are talking about the same car on ebay? What is your budget as I may be able to help & does it need to be a Mk1 consul or suchlike? Jeff Harris..
Guest Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 Just to add i am just looking to get my foot in the door with my first old ford, not bothered about performance yet due to change in circumstances. I am just so passionate about old fords and it gets depressing keep going to classic ford show every year wishing i had one. If anybody has anything around £600 please let me know, and dont laugh at my tiny purchase budget lol
