Daft question .......

I know, this may seem a daft question but ..... On my Capri 2.8i (A-reg) i have removed the dash/clocks.

When fitted does the fuel gauge constantly register the fuel level even when ignition off or does the needle drop to the needle stop and then rise when ingnition switched on?

I only ask as the needle for the fuel & temp gauge have came off and can I hell work out how they are supposed to sit/fit! I re-fitted the dash and these gauges aren't working!!!

When I had my capri, the level dropped to empty with the ign off, and rose accordingly when the ign was switched on.

Yep, mine drops with the ignition off

these gauges are fragile and if youve knocked something etc whilst putting the needles back on you could have disturbed something else

 

they have a spring and other small bits behind which works the needle

 

also one thing that does cause the fuel/temp to not work correctly is the small regulator on the back of the clocks

 

if they worked before youve maybe disturbed something though

Thanks for the replies all. These gauges never worked when I bought her and ive not had her out as yet as trying to do a few othe rthings first before she starts getting abused when the sun comes out!

The needles did come of an dthere is a small, sort of 'Z' bend in teh (I think!) copper strip which also should attach teh the spring but thats teh problem, trying to work out how the needle attaches to this arrangement. Now I have got teh needle attached but as stated teh needle is sittting right teh way down against the needle stop on both. I will attach a 9v battery and see if teh rise and afall with ease then take it from there.

In the meantime though, if anyone has any 2.8i dials that work! (A-reg) if you could let me know as will probaby get them anyway. Someone has postedm e saying tey have a set so just see how it goes.
