All the paint goes on fine but when its dried its very matt. do you rub down th waterbased paint before the clearcoat?? or do you put on a good few coats of clear coat then 2000 grit wet and dry then polish? nevery done any spraying with waterbased...... any advice would be usefull Cheer!
Mrs O/H/C Posted January 29, 2011 Report Posted January 29, 2011 Waterbase goes on matt..its the laquer that gives it the shine
michael_200 Posted January 29, 2011 Author Report Posted January 29, 2011 so dont be attemtying to flatthe waterbased down then i take it??
lead foot Posted January 29, 2011 Report Posted January 29, 2011 not realy a good idea, only nib out if you have s.it in the paint other than that just apply your clear coat, dry off and polish .
michael_200 Posted January 29, 2011 Author Report Posted January 29, 2011 happy days, the waterbased is getting a good coverage and looks well just wasnt to sure about what to do next about the matt finish... must say dont think id have the payience to do a whole car, il leave the mk1 escort to a real painter to spray and tell him to use 2k i think! ... oh aother thing, how long after the clear coat to polish would overnight do? any recomendations what t polish with, i was thinking g3 with the buff and then super resin polish... or just super resin polish with alot of elbow grease??
lead foot Posted January 29, 2011 Report Posted January 29, 2011 dry time ..... depends on the heat realy, if you dont bake in an oven i would suggest 2 days before polishing, (some people will disagree with this but it works for me ) i normally use either 1500 or 2000 wet and dry , the mop with g3 , then give it a good wax.
dannyb Posted January 29, 2011 Report Posted January 29, 2011 its back to front compared to solvent based, heavy coat first, not so heavy on the second and dust on the third coat. yes it will look naff but all will come good once the clear coat is applyed.
