Hello

I'm trying to find out which rack and pinion solution I should try in my car. The car is a 1967 Taunus 17m (never sold in UK :think: ) and its not delivered with rack and pinion. Its LHD.

It has to be quite short or prefelably with center mount tie rods.

I also have to put it behind the crossmember(is that the word?)

Any suggestions?

Crossmember :thumbsup::thumbsup:

From what I understand the steering set up is similar to a Mk1 Cortina.

I could only suggest finding a rear mounted rack first from a car that has a similar track width and work out the mounting from there. Perhaps a later type of front wheel drive like an Escort or Astra?

Otherwise, Using an Escort or Capri front end would work, but the front-bowl sump pan would need to be swapped for a rear-bowl. There are aftermarket kits available, but I think they have the rack on the front too

Just a thought Tom ;)

I have seen an aftermarket kit for an Anglia that uses the Anglia legs and steering arms (which are similar to the taunus/cortina) where the rack goes on the back of the crossmember. It's in this months CF mag :thumbsup:

Hi.

It doesn't matter for me where its mounted, if it just works :)

My car is not similar to Taunus/Cortina MK1, 2 or 3)

I think the rack should be mounted on the crossmember or the frame.. ehh.. I think :think:

Something like this:
