Del Boy Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 Hello all, Ive been driving my Capri for 7 months with no issues but since my wifes been driving it as her car is off road with no MOT I now seem to get a nasty vibration at a stand still or throughout the rev range, I'm thinking engine mounts? Is there any way I can check this before I replace them or could something else be causing this apart from the wife!! Question 2! I have no dash lights or rear wiper I have checked all fuses and they are fine so not sure whats going on there? unless theres another fuse box which I'm sure there ain't?? Any help would be great!! Cheers.
Del Boy Posted April 16, 2011 Author Report Posted April 16, 2011 Can anyone give me the fireing order for the 2.8 Capri? I have come to the conclusion the engine mounts are OK? This vibration has only just started so prob nothing to do with fireing order? What else could cause this vibration?
w p e Posted April 16, 2011 Report Posted April 16, 2011 exhaust rubber broke/gearbox mount broke bellhousing loose a few checks rolling under it is requiredor a duff plug causeing it to run on 5 will cause vibration
caprinerd Posted April 16, 2011 Report Posted April 16, 2011 the vibration sounds like it could be one of the mounts engine/gearbox or even as said exhaust there is a dimmer switch on your dash for the dash lights these have a habit of playing up and if its turned all the way up they sometimes give the impression that the dash lights arnt working turn it back a little and see if they come on other than that it could be that the bulbs are blown or the copper circuit board could have burnt out making a none complete ring as for the rear wiper it could be a number of things 1. the switch on the dash 2. blown relay 3. the switch the tailgate operates in the shut area 4. the motor is defunked 5. a bad earth on the motor
Del Boy Posted April 17, 2011 Author Report Posted April 17, 2011 Thanks for the advice! I have had a look at the bits you mention and it looks like the gearbox mount? I'm not sure how much movement there should be but it shakes when engine ticking over and I can move it easily with my hand. I took a 15 sec video which I will put below you may see some movement?
JP. Posted April 17, 2011 Report Posted April 17, 2011 There should be no movement in the gearbox mount. It should take brute force with a lever to move the gearbox in the rubber mount so Id say from here on the other side of the pool, the gearbox mouting rubber is shot. Here's a new one on eBay : Ebay Item 310311475822 Good luck.

Checked four relays I could find on drivers kick panel but seems all OK? I have a small water leak that runs down the relays so it must be something around there?
JP. Posted April 17, 2011 Report Posted April 17, 2011 Dash light : does the clock light & or heater display light work ??? if yess its gauge cluster related which is not uncommon as the print on the back will sometimes disintagrate. if not... is the dimmerknob working correctly... power goes from the fuse by a grey/yellow stripe wire to the knob and from there to clocklighting/ heater display light and gauge cluster. Rear wiper..... There a copper contact plate ( round about a dime size ) on the bottom of the bootlid and a contact point ( no its not a switch ) above the rearlight cluster. When switched on there should be 12 Volts on the contact point which should be transferred to the copperplate on the bootlid( if clean & no corrosion on both ). Rear wiper should only work when bootlid is closed and both contactpoints make ...contact to each other. Earthpoint is just connected somewhere on the bootlid. ( remove panel to see & check). This should get you somewhere further on the line.
Del Boy Posted April 17, 2011 Author Report Posted April 17, 2011 Checked everything and found the fuse for the dash lights had cracked but couldn't tell till you pulled fuse apart so after all that checking everything it was just the fuse! And the rear wiper a wire had broke behind the dash! Should have the Capri working normal next weekend!
Del Boy Posted April 23, 2011 Author Report Posted April 23, 2011 Today I replaced the gearbox mount which made no difference to the vibration so Ive checked all the plugs, dissy etc, inside the dissy theres a copper wire coil with a fabric around it, this fabric is broken so probably not a good thing? Also when engine is off the viscous fan I can spin but not smooth then it gets jammed using force to release it, I can shake fan blades left and right about half inch could this be the problem with vibration??
