michael_200 Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 hi again finally got stuck into the mk1 escort last week, got the 1300 x flow out stripping away getting ready for the full respray! just looking for a point in the right direction im sure this has been answered before. just about the engine conversion, looks straight forward so far.. rs 2000 engine mounts and big rad are my sort of concern how far do i need to chop etc to fit in the bigger rad? and also what way do the rs2000 mounts go as far as im aware there is a long one and a short one right? many thanks
Ratters Posted June 8, 2011 Report Posted June 8, 2011 need to chop the slam & bottom crossmember to reverse the mounts & move the rad forward so it sits in between the uprights. you might want to dress the bulkhead lip too bodywork wise. standard capri rad will be fine if new/good condition. water hoses. wiring for dizzy/alt. rs engine mounts. longer clutch cable. speedo if going 5 speed. clutch to match gearbox?!? ^^^ off the top of my head if you didn't know!
Ratters Posted June 8, 2011 Report Posted June 8, 2011 this is the new slam i've fitted on mine which shows how much i've cut out on the replacement!!
michael_200 Posted June 8, 2011 Author Report Posted June 8, 2011 Excellent, thanks for the quick reply, sort of got what you mean about the rad will have to get a better look when I'm back at the car, thinkin a trial fitment will be the best idea! Sorry just one more thing which side does the bigger engine mount sit at.. Thanks again michael
michael_200 Posted June 8, 2011 Author Report Posted June 8, 2011 Also any idea what's better to run ? A 2000e box I have or buy a type 9 five speed will there be much difference performance wise? Don't mind about moving the gear stick back, I just think the 5 speed will be easier with the off the shelf clutch etc . Thanks
