Need some advice, few issues with the missus focus.

What's wrong with it?

Started missing, engine light came on, followed by the gearbox light a spilt second later. Only selecting 2 and 3. Changed coil pack, sorted missfire, but still no first. Shift solenoids all ok, someone has suggested power surge thrown to box ECU which cooked it???

Yeah i've had shorted coil packs spiking and ruining ECU's before - is the engine and gearbox ECU combined? Usually if the gearbox ECU goes down or throws a fault the solenoids will mechanically fail in such a way it only gives you 2nd or 3rd gear (limp home) Ideally you need to get it plugged in mate or take the ECU out and smell it you'll soon know if its cooked or not

First diagnostic showed shift solenoid, so I changed those, wasnt cheap.

 

Still playing up so back in it goes, hopefully this other guy im using can throw some light on it. But it does sound ECU of which im not sure what the layout is, combined or seperate?

 

If its in Limp Mode and the problem, ie the coil, was replaced, do you then have to have it reset out of Limp before everything starts to work again?
