schifano01 Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 just joined OSF today just wanted to say iv had several encounters of blokes sizeing my mk2 xr2 out at unholy hours of the morning around the sutton common area. nothings come of it(YET) as my neibours usually make themselves noticed before they can make a move but you can never be too carefull right? i dont have a garage or a driveway unfortunately to secure it . anyone got any tips?
Bigfish Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 removable steering wheel boss f*&^ off big chain anything that will make the usual scum to think it is to much like hard work. but i would do it sooner rather than later
Posse Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 yeah big chain and a 12 bore that will sort it
rallyesport04 Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 a rotweiler in the footwell will work well when theres dodgy goins on round here the dog stays in front of the van at night strangley he prefers the dirty work van to the nice kennel an dog run hes got
mk1estate Posted November 11, 2011 Report Posted November 11, 2011 trouble is if they want it they will have it, but you can make it as hard as poss for them to nick it, prob the best thing is a wheel clamp but get a good one and make sure you use it. Being in a garage dont help either, once they have made thier mind up that they want your car they will have it. The best thing for everyone is to ask questions if offered a cheap part.......By the way im still looking for a 1.6 crossflow !!
Savvi Posted November 11, 2011 Report Posted November 11, 2011 I've got a tracker offer on here, it will alert you if it's moved out of a fixed area or even if it's rocked if you "arm" it 1st, sends a text or email to upto 3 stored numbers / email addresses, you can also follow it live on a Pc, laptop or smart phone. It's also Pay as you Go so if not used you dont have a monthly cost every month unlike all the others I'm just doing another order if your interested, couple of the lads on here have bought them, one of them is buying a 2nd as he loves it so much !!!

Admin Mk2Jo Posted November 11, 2011 Admin Report Posted November 11, 2011 im gettin a clifford alarm installed, the full works that'll wake the whole street if set off spendin £200's better then no car I would just like to say to you as a newbie on here that Savvi (posted above) is a long standing trusted OSF member on the forum and you can trust/rely on his offer above if you are in any doubt at all and maybe considering what he has said Whatever method of security you choose - welcome to the Old Skool Ford community - we hope you enjoy our forum
Savvi Posted November 11, 2011 Report Posted November 11, 2011 Thank you muchly Jo I think £200 for supply & fit of a clifford alarm is very very cheap, i'd be rather unsure of anyone doing it for that money. If you go this route you need to be fitting a Concept 650p Mk2 cat1 alarm / immobillser, as a Clifford dealer that unit cost'd me delivered to my doot £180 inc vat, it then takes me a full day to install properly. To give you some idea of the wiring involved here's one i fitted to a Honda S2000 last week.
GJUK Posted November 11, 2011 Report Posted November 11, 2011 0 cost: steering wheel off disconnect the battery unplug an HT lead Jack up the car - if it's left for a long period. Maybe even take off a wheel... Some cost: Alarm Snap off steering wheel battery cut off switch Garage/lockup. All the best, I hope you don't have any issues. Nothing worse J

Savvi Posted November 13, 2011 Report Posted November 13, 2011 Which model number alarm did you go for ? He must of aquired the unit on the Qt Glad you sorted it, too many are going missing these days.
schifano01 Posted November 15, 2011 Author Report Posted November 15, 2011 tbh mate mk2 xr2 is hardly desirable , but still bastards still wanna nick it. im only 20 passed my test this year so its the quickest afordable and insurable old ford i can get at the moment .its my daily driver too so it gets the job done, once i get a garage then a mk2 rs2000 would be nice. the alarm i got isnt a clifford i was mistaken, its a AVITAL 3100 still loud enough to scare a thieving mary half to death
Savvi Posted November 15, 2011 Report Posted November 15, 2011 That's still a good alarm mate, it's part of the Toad Group of alarms which were the top of the range back when we were fitting 4 alarms a day !!!! The most important thing about fitting an alarm is it has a battery back up Siren, that way if they cut the wire to the siren it keep sounding until the internal battery runs flat, other good makes are Cobra, Autowatch, Toad,Signa & Clifford for anyone else interested. What you will find now though is insurance companies want trackers fitted, they know that although the vehicle might be taken the recovery rate is very very high at getting them back. Anyone wanting any advice i'm happy to help if i can
