lotusless Posted December 31, 2011 Report Posted December 31, 2011 didn't they have a buyers guide in this months classic ford mag ? (or last month) i know they have a unique rear exhaust box mount close to the back panel + a extra plate up inside (under wing ) the front strut mounting.
mk2 mike Posted December 31, 2011 Report Posted December 31, 2011 You definately can't go by chassis number alone. My car has a GCAT number and it's only a GL
stu Posted December 31, 2011 Author Report Posted December 31, 2011 BEING Doing my home work. extra speedo cable bracket ofs front footwell, double exhaust mount nsr floorpan , slight diffrance in spare wheelwell. ( not sure on spec ), extra plate on innerwing bottom of strut housing. not all rs,s had pod in dash so carnt judge on the hole cut in it. ( mines hacked in with a axe lol ) big can of worms tho. its easy with mk1s avo shell etc.
MEXICO_PETE Posted December 31, 2011 Report Posted December 31, 2011 Check the anti-tramp bar brackets on the shell. Yes they can be faked, but dodgy welding is often the giveaway! If memory serves me right the chassis rails at the back should be double skinned?. Also check the top strut reinforcing plates. These should be spot welded on, very cleanly! Hope this helps
