you have to mix something with it i think will try and find some info for you, people use chip shop oil and mexican resturant oil and the exhaust fumes smell of the food

i think that you might be able to run a diesel on straight vegatable oil though, although im probably wrong, anyone tried it

Me and my mate are goin to do it, we were supposed to do it in the summer but things got in the way. You have to leagally claim tax on it but that still equates to about 40 odd pence a litre, if you dont we worked out that we could get around about 10 to 15 pence a litre! We even collected most of the parts to make the machinery but he's goin in with some of his mates to buy a kit. You basically have to mix cooking oil with ethenol and cuastic soda (to the correct parts) and heat it up and mix it correctly, this separates the glycerin (the bit that makes cooking oil thick) and replaces it with an alcohol. You let it settle for a couple of days and then take the Biodiesel off the top of the glycerin. You can even use the glycerin for soap after if you want. Its totally 'green' so much so in fact that you can drink it! It burns clean as well and doesnt damage the engine at all, all you have to do is change all the rubber fuel hoses for silicon (i think) and replace the fuel filter more often. It'll save us loads of money when we eventually get round to it, Uni is in the way at the mo as well as money but some time next year we hope to effectively have a mini biodiesel factory on the go!! (we will be claimin the tax tho )

Yeah i saw that, they will run on chipfat fine for a bit but eventually get all clogged up and break coz of how thick it is. But yeah they will run on it!

it all depends on the type of engine you have

 

there was a guy who used to come into the landrove rgarage he used to run his on tesco value vegetable oil and imperial vodka

 

 

 

newer engines will run on bio diesel but not just on veg oil spiked with ethanol ( or vodka if you like)

 

im not entirely sure ont he quantities tho ... ive been told that with landys you can do somewhere between a quater and half a tank of diesel and fil the rest up with veg oil and they run fine

I run my 306 TD on pure Veg oil in the summer and 40% derv 60% veg in the winter!

Dunno if there is a performance advantage between sunflower and veggie though??

only if you got a solid state fuel pump i think. some types use the diesel to lubricate the pump and cuz veg oil's so thick, it fooks 'em up.
