Bonnet release

Hello, This may sound like a daft questions but where is the bonnet release handle on a mk2 escort? I have just bought one but unfortunately it is stuck in customs and they won't release the car until they have verified the vin number, which is under the bonnet. They tell me they can't find the handle but won't let me near the car until their inspection is complete. I assume its in the drivers side footwell area, can somebody please confirm this.

thought it was in the same place as the mk1 top of the drivers side kick panel under the dash,good luck bud

LOL same embarrassing thing happened to me when I got my Escort, couldn't find it anywhere. It's on the driver side, above the shelf & under the dash
