bozie Posted May 3, 2012 Report Posted May 3, 2012 Finally getting my car back on the road just got a couple of things to sort so I need help I had a pre engaged starter on my crossflow in my mk2 escort I dissconnect that and installed I high torque gear reduction starter (edge) I connected the main cable from the battery and the cable thats from the ignition. It works it turns over but there was a third cable that had a round push fit connector on it but there is no where to put it on the new starter. Any help would be very appreciated Thanks
w p e Posted May 4, 2012 Report Posted May 4, 2012 the 3rd wires the ballist bypass wire if your on points it can stay of as the starter will help it start better if electronic the you realy need to run a new12v supply from the back of the fuse box to the coil bypassing the original coil feed as that will have a ballist risitor built in the wire that is no good if you have a 12v electronic system. yellow and black on most osf should be one thick y/b then a smaller y/b going to the plug on the fuse box the smaller one is the ballist. cut that out and run a new one from there to the coilor open the loom and you will find the y/b changes to black and the black is the ballist wire that needs removing
