pre 1973 number plates

Hi,

Does anybody know the law regarding pre 1973 number plates?. I've seen some cars at Classic Ford with really small number plates..

The size,spacing colour and even font are very particular for all number plates to be legal. anything else usually state just for show use when purchased. Only pre 73 plates can be silver or white on black, but still minimum size
