6 yrs ago my wife needed a new car, i asked her what she wanted and she said the new mini....i asked why she want one of them for? get a osf like what i got.well that went down well and said why do i want a rusty old ford for? i will be fixing the bloody thing all the time they have loads of fault from factory,i said.......well she won! im much to much of a push over...so we got a 2002 cooper with all the kit on like the red one on the newer italian job film, in them six years nothing has gone wrong with rusty (mk5 crusader) except the axle but that was my fault, the mini has had new exhaust cause it fell off so we fitted a ss magnex, all new brakes, new rad, 2 window motors one each side, engine mounts, oil cooler, drivers seatbelt, central locking motors, and thursday the electric power steering pump went up the sh!t that i sorted today,at a cost of 380 nicker for the pump i told her i should charge labour fitting all this cr@p and she should of got a rusty old ford!..... well shes not talking to me now :victory: happy days

just goes to show you can't beat an old ford rusty or otherwise

you would expect the build quality to be top notch on the mini as owned by bmw :roll:

i know its mad....i went on mini2.com the things that go wrong with them is unreal and the newer ones are just as bad and bmw never did any recalls on them cause they dont believe any of it is dangerous.but sometimes when the pump can go the steering has been known to lock......now if that aint dangerous i like to know what is? lets just say the kids aint going in it ever again.

They are crap!

The usual thing with the power steering pumps is that they just keep running, even with the engine off. Before you know it the bloody things on fire! This what happened to yours?

They are a nightmare to work on. Subframe down to do lower arm rear bushes. Is there any need for all that the round ones?!??

thats what happened to the pump, but never caught fire thank god,ive had afew bmws e30,e34 schnitzer, b10 and none of them were a pain to work on...i wouldnt even call it a bmw mini, its got a toyota engine rover gearbox, oh and the sunroof packed in today, tobe honest im real p!ssed off with working on the thing.told her when ive fixed it all im not going to spend any more cash on it....cause the money ive spent was for the cortina, oh the joys.

Great thing with an OSF is that you can pretty much fix them at the roadside with a few tools in the back, the amount of times my brother escort broke down and 10 mins later we were off again.

I hate new cars, ours is a nightmare!! everythings electronic and you find your resetting computers more than turning spanners...

very very costly indeed, cant wait til my mk1 escorts done
