1100 to 1600 xflow

first of all apologies if this is a stupid question but is there anything i need to swap my 1100 standard engine for my 1600 xflow 711 block in my mk1 escort estate ?

 

i asume it's a straight swap but just wanted to check before i go ahead

 

any info would be appreciated

IIRC the head sits up higher because the block is taller on the 1600 so the exhaust downpipe will need to be longer. Use the 1600 clutch. That's it I think

Make sure you use a 1600 sump as the crank will hit the 1100 one as I recall.

 

Also, the standard 1100 box is crap and you should move up to a gt single

 

rail (seperate bell housing type) or go the whole hog and fit a 5 speed type 9

 

in which case you will have to mod the tunnel to fit.
