Hey all,

I'm currently considering pulling a Mk2 Escort van out of a barn to restore but it's in a pretty bad way. How readily available are the parts (panels etc) and what are the best suppliers?

I used to be into Fords (3 x Mk3 Escorts, 1 x Mk1 Orion, 1 x Mk4 Escort and a Sierra Saphire) but moved over to VW and BMW (don't spit!). Looking at the possibility or re-entering the Ford scene just wondering if the van was worth it?

Thanks

Is this the custom one ?

I'd say go for it, panels can be hard to get for a some of them but majority are ok to get, rear panels are expensive, ack doors come up rarely but wings, doors etc are the same as estates or 2 doors.

I'd leave it as a custom van if it's the one i think, if mine hadnt already been 90% put back to standard i would have kept it in it's custom form as i think the look is slowley coming back !!!!

I had a proper look at the van yesterday, it's not a custom one. It's in deepest darkest Somerset. It's owned by a really old lady and it is a total wreck and far too bad to restore unfortunately.

The conversation was funny though:

Me 'Hi, who's field is that?'

Old lady 'It's mine love'

Me 'What's happening with that van?'

Old lady 'That's mine love, I keep my logs in that!'

Me 'really? Can I swap it for a shed?'

Old lady 'i couldn't put a shed up!'

Fair enough.

She told me that they had just scrapped their old escort too. She looked at my car and said 'our escort was a G plate. The G was at the end though...'!

If only I caught her in time.
