Garryprior Posted December 29, 2012 Report Posted December 29, 2012 Nice looking car. There's one the same colour but with a black vinyl roof close to where I live.
PeterWestaway Posted January 7, 2013 Report Posted January 7, 2013 Yep shes a beauty ok guys like us have to keep them alive for the future classic car lover. With taste that is.
mark reed ford Posted January 11, 2013 Author Report Posted January 11, 2013 Hi Credders, yes it came from Broughton near Brigg Scunthope, the lad who had it was a mechanic working for Toyota, well spotted it was about six years ago i got it so you have a good memory.
mark reed ford Posted January 11, 2013 Author Report Posted January 11, 2013 Hi Steve, I had a MK3 GT a few years ago now lovely car yellow with tomb stone seats, i have had Fords most of my driving life and the Cortina has always been a favorite of mine from MK1 to MK5 the other ford i did enjoy was a MK1 Fiesta i owned it was just a cracking drive.
Credders Posted January 12, 2013 Report Posted January 12, 2013 Hi Credders, yes it came from Broughton near Brigg Scunthope, the lad who had it was a mechanic working for Toyota, well spotted it was about six years ago i got it so you have a good memory. i knew him Phil Gibson i did have a look but wanted a white 1 at the time. he told me the previous owner was a joiner and built a wood frame that would obsorb all the moisture to cover it in his garage. nice car should of had it.
mark reed ford Posted January 12, 2013 Author Report Posted January 12, 2013 Well thats news to me, but explains why the panels are so good all around, I took the front struts out the outher day to change the rubber mounts and the paint was still under them on the inner wing.
Credders Posted January 12, 2013 Report Posted January 12, 2013 it was advertised in classic car weekly and after seeing the car then reading the ad, i thought the ad didnt do it justice as the car was nicer than it read.
mark reed ford Posted January 13, 2013 Author Report Posted January 13, 2013 I found it on classic cars.co.uk, it wasn't coming up in the 1600E section i pressed on similar car before it appeared, the add just said Cortina 1600E £3000 ono, the picture of the car was poor blurred with just the doors showing, i gave him a ring to ask about the car and decided to go see it, as soon as he opened the door on the garage i thought i'm having that, and drove it 300 miles home with no problem. It took me 6 months of looking to find a good one there is a lot of rust and filler out there, i can't see me parting with it, i can't make my mind up what to do with it quite a bit of the paint is original and some say keep it as it is, but its faded and chipped so i would like to paint it again.
Credders Posted January 13, 2013 Report Posted January 13, 2013 yes theres a lot of nasty cars hiding under new paint out there, if youve got a good 1 youve got to keep it. keep thinking about selling my GT but i looked at a lot of nastys before i bought it so im reluctant to get rid. mine
mark reed ford Posted January 13, 2013 Author Report Posted January 13, 2013 Very nice GT, they seem as rare as hens teeth these days. The thing with old Fords they are tough and easy to keep on the road with good parts supply. If i had more space i would end up with a fleet, i do like the MK1 Capri 3000E it would be my prefrence but any would do.
